Sorry. I meant, Killed By Death, another BtVS fan favourite (sarcasm font).
Just for the record, the even numbered eps in season 2 really don't compare that favourably with the odds. And yes, I will be back soon with a review of Go Fish. Lucky me.
Anyway, I can vaguely recall thinking this episode was better than I remembered when I rewatched it, but I suspect that most of us (me included) are going to struggle to find much to say about it. Even the scenes from Buffy's childhood don't seem to fit with what little we see of it later.
No wonder Cousin Celia never gets another mention.
There are some good things in the episode, though, as there always are.
Evil!Angel is on top form, for a start.
A pity the same can't be said for Buffy.
She has a bad flu virus and feels a bit rubbish.
So rubbish that Evil!Angel thinks it'd be unsporting to kill her.
So very rubbish she ends up in hospital.
Still, at least she gets lots of visitors.
Evil!Angel brings flowers. So thoughtful!
Xander doesn't think so, though. And in a scene just brimming with menace...
...and poisonous levels of testosterone, he sees Evil!Angel off the premises. But not before Evil!Angel's got in a few nasty barbs (while looking really hot, have to say).
No wonder Xander's a bit tetchy with Cordelia later on,
only for her to do an Evil!Angel on him and stalk off after delivering a killer last line.
There's also a nice little scene where Joyce commiserates with Giles about Jenny's death,
which makes the episode seem slightly less (slightly) like filler.
Otherwise, it's just monster of the week stuff.
There's a doctor acting a bit suspiciously.
Another doctor acting even more suspiciously.
Some scared kids,
and a really well-designed monster, which is rather wasted on the episode.
Not only well-designed but polite, which is a refreshing change.
It all ends happily ever after (as far as BtVS ever does), with Buffy getting long-delayed revenge (best served cold, you see) on the monster that killed her never-mentioned-again cousin Celia when they were both children.
Hoorah!
The only other thing I can think of worth mentioning is that Giles is saddled with Cordelia as a research partner, an experience so horrific, he's reduced to tearing his hair out.
See?
Actually, I think he's clutching his head like that because he's just realised what the demon at the hospital is, but my explanation is better.
Buffy also gets to make some adorable faces.
Evidence.
More evidence.
Best lines:
Evil!Angel: Uh-oh. This does not look good for
our heroine.
Thoughts, anyone?
Before I go, would just like to say, I'm with Willow. I grew up not knowing what people really mean by 'playing doctor' too.
