Absolutely agree Kat is a wonderful character! As an oldest sibling, I don’t completely relate to how offended Sam is by the implication that Dean is his boss but my younger sibling says they totally get it and that it would be absolutely infuriating ;))

LOL :D

I enjoy both characters and the fun way the young actors play them, but I really love Kat because she's such a strong female character. The show has created a lot of strong women for a series that's often been accused of misogyny. It's another one of those things that makes me think that, in the early seasons at least, SPN was consciously using the traditional tropes and stereotypes of toxic masculinity whilst simultaneously subtly de-constructing them. Again, is it a misogynist show? Or is it a story about misogyny? Doubtless that's a topic that could be debated at length :P

Thanks so much for reading and commenting.

Yes! Kat is a wonderful character! And this episode is sort of a horror movie, with all the tropes!
Love these shorter recaps that you publish more often! Thank you!

I suspect the plethora of horror tropes and cliches may be deliberate. A lot of the episode is played comic, so it may be a bit of a send up of traditional horror tropes. "It's like we're in a movie" says Gavin. Dean lecturing Kat on paying attention to horror movies after committing the cardinal sin of suggesting they split up is probably intentional irony too. The use of humour in an episode is a great device for heightening the horror and drama when it happens.

I'm really pleased to hear the new approach is working for you. Many thanks for the feedback :)))

From the very beginning, it seemed to me that Gavin was not worthy of this brave girl)))

This episode is a veritable tropefest.

Very funny, but the episode really turned out to be one of the best in terms of tension and "scary".
Thanks for the review. Always very interesting

Yes, it's never good for them to split up! Here, I think Dean is being protective to Kat and Gavin because they're not hunters. It's different for Sam and Dean, because they put themselves in harm's way all the time... it's part of the job.

I'm enjoying your recaps, and look forward to reading the next one!

I suspect Hatem is just poking a little fun at horror cliches ;)

Many thanks for reading and commenting. I'm so pleased you're still enjoying the recaps. The next one's up now.
