Things I Love About SPN Season 1: Asylum #1

Mar 19, 2022 19:14

Hi everyone,

Sorry it’s been so long since I last posted one of these. I’ve been giving some thought to the way I do these recaps and I’ve come to the conclusion that the essay length segments I’ve been posting are a lot of work and take me too long to prepare, plus I think the length puts some people off reading. So, I’m going to try a new ( Read more... )

I really enjoy your observations on the episodes.

Particularly lines like this:
“Let’s split up” is a frequently used phrase in the horror genre
that loosely translates to “let’s go die”.

Another way of making these less onerous for you might be to just comment on the specific scenes/interactions that you want to say something about, without doing a whole walk-though/recap of each episode?
Personally, I'm here for your thoughts about the boys, and Sam's nostril flares.

You know, that was the plan originally but the reviews seem to have got more recappy as I've gone along somehow. I guess there are just a lot of scenes I want to comment on! I've done all the work on this episode now, but I'll try to be more focused on the next one. Thanks so much for your comment and suggestion :)

This sounds like a good idea, to do it in bite size chunks.

That's a good point... they had been getting along better. But now, Dean is insisting they follow a direct order from John. And that's fuel for Sam's anger later on.

Riverdale has been used in TV (and probably movies of less-than-blockbuster status) since at least Highlander. It was the stairs Dean met Tessa on in IMTOD, it was the grounds and the building in the background in (I've lost the title and season, sorry) the ep where Dean jumped ahead in time and met Future Dean--where he met Samifer in the garden. They used Riverdale for at least a dozen eps over the run of the series. An interesting note is the location is just one disused wing of the institution--the rest is still in operation as a hospital-rehab center. Or at least it was in the early seasons.

That's interesting info! I didn't know the main building was still in use. Thanks for sharing that. Doubtless it's the still functional part being shown in the daylight photo. I guess the hospital must be making a good profit out of hiring the disused wing to TV and film-makers or it would have been demolished or repurposed by now. Pretty sure I've seen that staircase in several episodes, just dressed up to look different each time.

Thanks so much for the interesting comment :)))

I've read it too that directors love this hospital very much and often shoot there. But in the series, she really looks more terrifying than in real life))
Thanks for your overview

I can understand why it's so popular with directors. It's a great location :)))

Thanks for reading and commenting :)
