Jerry Panowski was a great character - I loved how he had to go off and fire some idiot :D It was also interesting to hear his POV how he talked about John; good little bit of backstory there ( ... )

I loved their first time suiting up! And of course, they have always rented the suits, at least up until they could have them in the Bunker. I just always thought they bought really cheap ones, but renting makes more sense!

Sam really redeemed himself as the always caring brother!

Dean taught Sam to care, then Sam cared more.

I've always felt that scene in "Something Wicked" illustrated it in a nutshell - where Dean grudgingly gives up the last bowl of Lucky Charms, and Sam responds by completely willingly - and without being asked or prompted - offering Dean the prize.

I loved Jerry. He was a very genuine and endearing guy.

And, naturally, Dean spent forty years in Hell. "The number means death."

I've read Sheila O'Malley's review since I posted this, and she points out that Sam's pissed about Dean mansplaining what an EMF metre is, as if Sam needs a refresher course. That makes sense and mitigates his attitude a bit. When I first watched these episodes I recall I just saw incidents like that as funny because Dean always seemed so cocky at first and so I thought it wouldn't hurt him to be slapped down a bit. I think that's how Sam sees him at first, too. (I'll have more to say about that theme if I get as far as reviewing "Home".) But, I still think at the core, Sam genuinely thinks he's better than Dean, better than his family, at this point in the series. He pretty much says it outright in the pilot. But then we get the big status reversal in season 5, after his fall at the end of S4, when he says to Dean and Bobby and Cas: "I'm the least of any of you." Sam had to fall before he could rise.

Sam is really, really good at researching! Later we see that he learned that early. Of course, John taught him and that obviously got him to Stanford on a full ride!

Dean actually is no slouch either at researching, and he does know his monster lore!

Absolutely. He may not enjoy it the way Sam does, but he knows what he needs to know, and he knows the lore, and that journal at least as well as Sam does, if not more.

Sam looks so tall in that walking scene with jerry. It's the first time I really noticed on the show.

I was one of those who just assumed Dean was short, until their arrest in Usual Suspects (or was it Folsom Prison Blues?) when we saw Dean against the measure and it said 6'3" and I said to Paul "6'3 my arse. If Dean's 6'3 then how tall is Sam?" *scoff*)" That's when we looked up Jared's height and when we discovered he was 6'4" and added a couple of inches for heeled boots I was like "Oh! Oh, well, fair enough then!" :D

Yes, their heights were such a surprise. Show does a good job of hiding how giant they are 😊

Also I am pretty sure I read that Jared played the airline passenger in chess (was it in the commentary? Otherwise it must have been an interview) and I am sure he beat him 😊
Will be back to read your part 3 shortly ♥️

It was J2's commentary to the episode. He also played Cyrusn Yavneh and beat him. Sounds like he pretty much beats everyone :D
