June 18, 2019: Running Errands

Jun 18, 2019 21:10

I had errands to run today. I started out by getting a Lyft to the closest mailbox, to mail operasnook's very belated present. I bought her soap and a sponge in France, but didn't get home until the day after her birthday. At that point, I kind of had an excuse for being late, but then another thirteen days went by; I didn't have an excuse for every one of ( Read more... )

Was Target back up and running smoothly? They had major problems Saturday and Sunday.

Everything was working well. The problem occurred on Saturday and I think was resolved the same day.

Since I'm retired, I try to stay out of stores on the weekends. I don't need crowds. FanSee

Hugs. It is tough when you struggle to walk.

It sure is. I am working with a physical to figure out just why I fall over backwards every so often. Gotta be a reason! FanSee

I seem to remember you had one of these foldable canes you can attach to your backpack? They are not very robust but enough for steps and curbs. Something like that: https://www.amazon.com/Sminiker-Professional-Carrying-Gentleman-Aluminum/dp/B01FHQBSKW/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=foldable+cane&qid=1560931139&s=gateway&sr=8-7 , my mom has one of these for when she has her migraine and gets dizzy from one moment to the next, she just carries it in her handbag.

Thank you so much for the link. I will certainly follow up on it.

I do occasionally feel dizzy, but it usually passes in seconds. I had intense vertigo in 2015 and fell and concussed myself badly. Since then I've only had one severe twinge of vertigo which lasted five minutes. Mostly my dizziness is over so quickly that it's passed before I can react to it. *shrugs* Getting old is not for wimps. FanSee

I checked the cane out and was quite impressed. A lot of the complaints were about the light breaking, but I don't need a lighted cane anyway, so what the heck? I live in a city with street lighting, anyway.

I'm not buying another cane until I see what I need after I finish with my p.t., but I'm definitely glad to have the link. FanSee

I remember going through the Louvre and having people kick my cane from underneath me. That was freaky scary! I know your concern, but it's better to be with and safe than without and not.

Omigod! What an awful thing to do. Makes me feel better about my decision not to go to the Louvre alone...though of course the location has nothing to do with the attack, really. Crazy/stupid/vicious people are everywhere.

I am practicing with the cane daily and improving but I still have a ways to go. FanSee

Thankfully, they didn't do it on purpose; it was that crowded and they were always very embarrassed and apologetic. But it did happened and my back was not happy about it.

It always takes me a few days to get used to using it again when I have a bad spell, too.

I started with p.t. at the end of May and have had a lot of interesting testing done which I wrote up in much too much detail here.

One of the problems the therapist has identified is a deterioration of my inner ear that is throwing my balance off. I have exercises to do with my eyes which, I think, teach my eyes to compensate for the inner ear problem.

This is not my first bout of p.t. I am a big fan. FanSee
