20 January 2019: In Which Everything Works Out

Jan 20, 2019 23:28

Both my sister, Debbie, and I spent all day yesterday and last night separately fretting about whether the plans for her 74th birthday would work out. How much snow would we get? As it turned out, zero inches. Next the forecast was for lots of rain with flooding in low lying areas? Yep, it rained, and I can look out my window and see ponding in ( Read more... )

That sounds like a wonderful day - and a lovely meal!

Hopefully Debbie enjoys her art supplies!

It was both!

Debbie said yesterday that she had already used the watercolors. Crafting is a very important part of her life, but it's been years since she had an painting supplies so this gift was perfect for her. FanSee

How nice to be let in early because of weather! And that art set is amazing. My father would love something like that, so maybe come his birthday.....

The art set was a hit with my sister, anyway. She hasn't had any painting supplies since she moved into her apartment four years ago. She said she broke out the watercolors yesterday. FanSee

How thoughtful of Alan and Olga! And you to :) Has Debbie been interested in art? I truly hope she creates with her new supplies.

Sounds all and all like a terrific day. With support of all of you, I send good thoughts to the universe that Alan will stay the positive course.

Yesterday Debbie used her new watercolors. I'm sure she'll continue to experiment with everything: she a crafty type. (This is my craft.)

Thank you for the good wishes for Alan. He can never have too many of them. Hugs, FanSee

Everything worked out perfectly, thanks in good part to Mother Nature. I'm so happy Debbie had a memorable birthday. It's not every day that you turn 74! FanSee

I heard from my "Philly family" (those from my family that live there!) that the storm "up north" wasn't quite as bad as they had predicted. I guess it stayed warmer long enough not to have as much snow, and it didn't get cold in time to turn all that rain into a frozen walkway! Ice is so dangerous!

I'm so glad you got to go - and to hear Alan's 9 year anniversary talk in NA. It's gratifying when a loved one gets that under control, though I know one has to work at it to keep it that way.

What a fabulous gifts for Debbie - both the cash (oh yes - so nice to get some of that!), and art supplies. She must be artistically inclined and it will be fun to see what she creates with it!

It was bitter bitter cold on Sunday, but we never got any snow. Then the wind blew everything dry before the temperature dropped low enough to freeze.

I am skeered to death of ice. Not taking any chances with ice.

'Fabulous' is the right word to describe Debbie's gifts. She was over-whelmed by Alan and Olga's amazing present. I know she'll use them: she broke out the watercolors yesterday! I'm sure I'll get to see what she's been doing the next time I get over to see her. FanSee

I didn't used to be scared of ice, but when I fell down in the middle of town on an icy patch a few years ago, I realized just how bad it could be. I didn't hurt myself, but it was a warning. At age 69 my bones are a tad more fragile... I think that is one reason I'm glad we live in Hilton Head Island, SC in the winter. Yet -- I still do miss winter and snow - at least to a small extent because it's so pretty. I used to downhill ski and loved other winter sports, but those days are over, I guess. And, shoveling it, and cleaning a car of ice is not my favorite activity!
