19 January 2019: 'Running' Errands

Jan 19, 2019 21:13

Tomorrow is my sister Debbie's 74th birthday and my son Alan's NA anniversary. Debbie, Alan, Alan's partner, Olga, and I are supposed to go out to dinner. The weather forecast is making that problematical. This morning when I got up at dawn (a.k.a., 9:45 a.m.), it sounded like we would be knee-deep in snow by now (8:15 p.m.); not a flake has fallen ( Read more... )

I hope your back settles down. I have bad ankles, so while walking is something I try to do, it's an awkward slow gait that is not painful, but apparently looks painful.

I'm seeing my family doctor at the end of the month, and I'll talk to him about it. (It's a fairly new problem and getting worse, I think.) Trying not to suffer in silence, which can be my default. FanSee

Thanks for the add!

I grew up in the suburbs of Philly -- so know the city fairly well, although for me it was mostly Market and Chestnut Streets. We used to go in via the Reading Railroad (now SEPTA) when I was a child to the department store, John Wanamakers. My niece and her husband and little boy live there now -- in a renovated brownstone not too far from the Art Museum. Your apartment sounds really nice.

I hope your back settled down once you got home, and hope it's nothing huge. I have sciatica issues, and actually - for me - walking is one of the best things for me. It mostly acts up if I sit too long, and lying down can be problematic, so getting comfortable for nighttime sleeping is annoying. My knees also aren't the best, but as long as I'm not walking on uneven ground, I'm ok. Ha - my mountain climbing days are over 😜

The Art Museum area is a new one for me; I moved into my apartment in August. Before that, I lived on Lombard Street between 8th and 9th for 35 years. Before Lombard Street, I lived in the Far Northeast...I could easily walk into Bucks County from my front door...for another 27 years. I'm not exactly peripatetic! When I lodge, I stick. FanSee

P.S. I'm seeing my doctor on Friday and will ask him about the back issues. My other crotchets don't really bother me.

Bucks County is the neighboring county to where I grew up. I went to Upper Dublin High School and lived in Ambler (Montgomery County) but moved away to Long Island where my husband lived when I got married. But -- I'll be a Philly girl forever, and am a Phillies and Eagles fan

A productive (if unscheduled!) day! Hooray for snow that does not appear!

I have a Whole Foods near me - I try to stay out of it, as it is bad for my budget, they have some neat stuff - although, like you, I've noticed that they seem to be missing some basics. I also find it disconcerting, because they don't carry any of the brands that I'm used to - so it takes me 3x as long as normal to FIND something, since I don't recognize the labels on the shelves.

I hope you find your sugar packets! I hate when I *know* something exists in my house, but I cannot find it!

The sugar has yet to show up, but I did find an unopened bag of Hershey miniatures, so the search hasn't been a total loss.

My house was around the corner from a Whole Foods and another block from an Acme, so I am beyond familiar with WF. I do miss my Acme, though. The nearby Target...closer than the WF...is doing its best to win me over, though. FanSee

Whole Foods carries Lake Champlain Chocolates. Their Aztec hot chocolate mix is very good, but the Five Star Chocolate Hazelnut Bar is beyond amazing. Also, alas, expensive.

So I try to stay out of Whole Foods unless I need something only they have.

I have had Lake Champlain Chocolates, but I hold out for Lindt at Whole Foods. Lindt is expensive but so worth it, in my opinion.

As well as WF, I have a Target close by, and Target is slowly worming its way into my heart. I usually buy all my fresh fruits and vegetables at WF, but right now, in my refrigeraton, I have amazing blueberries from Target. Small, fresh, and tart-sweet: mmmm. FanSee

Wow, that's a lot. I'd have been down for three days afterwards. At least you got all your errands done, though.

Sorry to hear that your walking is restricted. All my life I've depended on walking for 90% of my exercise. I'm hoping that when I see my doctor on Friday, he will wave his magic wand and come up with a cure for my thoroughly annoying back problem. FanSee
