Is Putin Getting What He Wants from Trump?

Jun 10, 2017 18:07

As some of you may know, I am obsessed with the current administration and watch far too many hours of news and opinion on MSNBC (not a Trump-sympathetic news outlet). However, I have opinions about Mr. Trump that I haven't seen articulated elsewhere until now:

The longer Trump digs his heels in and insists that Russian interference in the election had nothing to do with his win, the more I have become convinced that he himself had no role at all in colluding with the Russians. (His associates are another story.) Instead, he refuses to recognize any Russian role in his win. If he did, his hu-uge victory would be diminished and his very tender ego would sustain unbearably painful injuries. Mr. Kotkin agrees:

The root of the unfolding political fiasco for Mr. Trump is that as a candidate and as president-elect he reportedly sought to do something beyond daft: to lift sanctions on Russia right after they had blatantly meddled in an election partly on his behalf. It’s no surprise that speculation has been feverish that he must be guilty of collusion or even of opening himself up to blackmail ( ... )

I'm not sure if Trump colluded with the Russians or not. Sometimes he comes across as so dumb that he wouldn't know that he was doing it. Just like he doesn't seem to know the difference between a bill and a memo. Put a paper in front of him to sign and he's there.

Putin has gotten a little bit from interfering with the election: Clinton isn't president. But I doubt he's going to get the lifting of the sanctions. Congress might be a bunch of self-serving jerks, but they're not in Putin's pocket.

I agree with you about his cabinet. Even the ones that were originally supposed to be so upright (like McMasters,) are turning out to have feet of clay. The rest are either inept (DeVos, Carson,) or just as mired in the mud as Trump is (Sessions, Kushner.)

Trump isn't going to be able to override the new sanctions on Russia, anyway. I guess it's a start. FanSee

I'm so disgusted by the whole thing that I've taped a note to my television simply reminding myself - NO NEWS. Instead of channel surfing and ending up on MSNBC, I turn it off and open a book.

You're a stronger woman than I am! My family has taken to calling MSNBC my soap opera: a new chapter every night, at least five nights a week. FanSee

Look up the Domesday Clock here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doomsday_Clock. It just about summarises how the rest of the world feel about Trump. We are at 2.5 minutes to midnight.

A man who misunderstands what is going on and responds showing how little he has understood shouldn't be given access to a working red button.

We'll be lucky to survive him.

This is the only argument in favor of Mike Pence. Otherwise he would only be a more effective wrecking ball than DJT.
