Much Gnashing of Teeth

I spent last Thurday, Friday, and Saturday in Income Tax Hell. Then when I wanted to go on LJ and moan and whine about it, LJ had gone all wonky and I couldn't post. Sometimes life is really not fair ( Read more... )

I'm sorry about the taxes - especially when you have to pay more - but at least now they are sorted and done.
This is my last year - supposedly - for paying tax. At the present time, you don't pay tax on superannuation payments when you are over 60 and I turn that magical number in a couple of months time. As my income is classed as a super payment taxes will no longer happen unless the government changes the setup. Here's hoping that this doesn't happen.
I've now finished chemo and steroids and today I had a pedicure - which was lovely. Time to relax.

So pleased your last chemo is behind you! And yay for the pedicure!

I get three types of payments in retirement: a pension from the University of Pennsylvania, Social Security based on my years of work and my salary, and Walter's Federal pension. I pay tax on both my Upenn pension and all of my Social Security. In the case of Social Security, that's because all three of retirement funds put me into a taxable bracket for Social Security. Debbie, on the other hand, doesn't even have to file anymore, but she lives on a very small monthly payment, too.

Walter contributed to his Federal retirement, so part of his pension payments are tax-free. However the government paid in far more than he did, so most of his pension is taxed, too.

With three sources of retirement funds, I make almost as much before taxes in retirement as I did when I worked so I'm not complaining. FanSee

I did my taxes the first weekend in April, and was a ball of nerves until I hit "send." I don't know why, it's not as if there's much to ours. We don't have enough deductions to itemize. I suppose it's worrying about finding some trap somewhere in there, or finding out we owe our lives to the IRS (we don't.)

But doing three sets of taxes? You're a real glutton for punishment, aren't you? *g*

Turbo Tax does make it easy, but why did all three of us wait until almost the last minute? That's what made it stressful.

Both Samantha and I have a trust fund and we have to wait to get our K-1 Schedules (like a W-2 for salary and wages), and that's never available until mid-March. Alan has income from his small business plus W-2 income from his job AND he gets 1099 income from sales he makes on his job. That's a lot of pulling info together and getting organized, so he has a legitimate reason to wait until ten days before he has to file. Samantha and I? Not so much. FanSee

Sorry you are going to have to pay a bit and had all that trouble, but *yay* taxes are done! It always feel like such a relief when that little bit o' heaven is finished.

Glad you had a day to reward yourself - that's so important and not many people oblige themselves that way.

I cry over everything, but then and again, so does the Big Guy. :D

It's not often I have a book that I enjoy so much that I want to take a day off and just read. I was pretty sure beforehand that I was going to want to marathon Visitor, however, so I had purposefully saved it for a time when I could indulge myself.

The cats were pleased by my decision. They slept on or near me pretty much all day. FanSee

I haven't had that happen in a long time, but it's always wonderful when it does. That's what I love about cruising. Sea days were made for binge reading!

Sorry about the Income Tax hell. This is why I use an accountant now. The stress was way too much and it's not good for my mental health. It's actually cheaper for me to pay to have them done, rather than end up in therapy for 3 months. LOL.

Going to an accountant is a great idea and one I approve of, but there is a problem with that in my case: I am an accountant, a C.P.A., to be exact. I am able to do my own taxes, with or without Turbo Tax, even though taxes weren't something I did professionally when I worked. (I audited, did financial accounting, and budgeting.)

My husband loved taxes, with a deep and abiding love, so as long as he was alive, he did ours. I can't say I feel the same level of enthusiasm, but I do feel comfortable with the results when I'm done. FanSee

I never had to deal with those things before but I can imagine how stressful it must be even for someone as meticulous and knowledgeable such as yourself dear fansee.
Glad you were able to sort things out eventually :)
