First of all, now that my little powder room is complete, I had my sis-in-law over for a consult. Should I make the bathroom look larger by once again putting mirrors on the long wall? Or should I ask her to paint me a mural? Brenda took one look at the completed bathroom...
...and said, "Neither. What I'd do is find a picture with strong perspective, mat it and frame it so that it fills up the wall behind the toilet. That will draw the eye beyond the dimensions of the room and make it seem longer." And that's why I love getting Brenda's opinion on décor.
Provided my own pictures will print up clearly, I'd like to use one of them:
I love this one but because it is in Landscape orientation, I can't quite visualize how it would look in a very Portrait area.
I like this one, too, and have an easier time picturing it in the space.
A big factor is how large I can print either or both, depending on their dpi's (dots per inch). If the largest I can go is 10x12, either one should work. If I can print 11x17, then the second picture has the edge.
I found a store with a good graphics department, and I'm taking both pictures in some time this week. They can tell me the dpi's, and print them on art stock paper. For about $8.00 a piece, I'll have them both printed up and take both to the framer's.
Now that the bathroom is 90% finished, I'm getting new carpeting in my home office:
This room is insanely full of Stuff. These two pictures don't even show the six-foot tall bookcase or the equally tall CD tower. Everything will have to be moved out of the room so that the carpet can be installed. As long as I'm stripping the room, it would be nutz not to paint the walls.
My son, Alan, sells flooring for Empire Carpets, so today he came over to celebrate Mother's Day and to help me pick out the new carpeting. I decided on a high end tweed that looks mostly gray but also has flecks of terracotta. With that, I can leave my terracotta accent wall - which I love - untouched, then paint the rest of the room in a pale pale beige.
All this happens next week. Samantha is supposed to be leaving with Julie and her family for the Outer Banks on Saturday the 17th and returning on Saturday the 24th. However, Julie's grandfather died on Thursday, and there's been some talk that Julie's aunt and her family won't be able to go. The aunt missed a lot of work during her father's last days, and she has been on the fence about taking more time off. If she decides she can't go, the whole trip gets canceled, so Samantha is very much crossing her fingers. I strongly suggested that if it is cancelled, Sam spend the week at John and Pam's. I got unenthusiastic responses from all three of them, but I can tell you, this house is going to be chaos that week. Organized chaos, I hope, but still awful.
Because Empire Carpets does not disassemble furniture, on Monday the 19th movers are coming in and moving my gihugic workstation to the living room. I'll try to get as much as I can of all the Stuff in the workstation out of it before Sunday but, just in case, I've invited John, Pam, Ryan and Jill (Welcome to the family, Jill!) over to help move the contents on Sunday. I'll be serving refreshments, and I've promised everyone that they'll be getting lots of good karma as a result.
Tuesday my contractor has promised that the painters will be here bright and early with two days to spackle and paint. Empire Carpets lays the carpet on Thursday, and on Friday the movers return to move the workstation back upstairs. Samantha is due home on Saturday, so as soon as the movers leave, I'll start getting anything I've stored in her bedroom out of there - and there will be lots - so that the bed will be ready to be made when she gets home, probably late in the day.
Please cross your fingers for me. I think there is a high probability that everything will go as planned - 70% - but if any step fails...disaster! FanSee
