Shabbat, Snakes, and Stealing

Mmm, Shabbat was a relief after the initial adjustment period. Because I start working in the kerem, or vineyards, at 5:45 AM and I'd been doing that for two days straight (not a schedule I'm used to), those of us working there didn't get off early because work normally ends around noon. One of the most fascinating aspects of living abroad is the different take on local idols. Make sure you listen carefully to the reasons why some people don't like Obama. Some of the reasons may broaden your horizon while you might find other opinions to be rather lacking perspicacity. You may also find that you do not know enough about the subject and need to do research before expressing an opinion. You don't have to become politically active but it is good to know that there are more opinions than Democrats and Republicans. I even have trouble equating a two-party system with democracy - there just isn't sufficient controversy to develop critical thinking which is so vital to the principle. Keep your ears open and your mind sharp and try to grasp other perspectives in their entire depth. Enjoy the mental journey!
