spn fic: "blind, without a blow"

 He was wrong.

Lucifer defeated himself, the moment he, in his arrogance, took Sam as his vessel.

Lucifer regarded humans as little more than animals, clay and spit mixed together and made to move about through the regrettable debasement of his Father’s holy fire.

In hell, through the aeons, he had watched through the bars of his prison ( Read more... )

Oh, thank you for this. There has not been enough exploration of Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino needed more time onscreen, dammit) nor of the Lucifer/Michael relationship. This fic went a long way in plugging that gap. I can see Lucifer's astonishment for the strength of the Dean/Sam bond - he wishes he had that with Michael. Thanks for writing and sharing.

You're very welcome. I think Lucifer is a key piece of the whole ending -- a much more interesting character than Michael. I have to continue looking at him, since he and Sam will be in the cage together in Hell.

thanks so much for your comment.

This was great what Lucifer felt and realize after seeing Sam's memories. I am imagining Lucifer comforting Sam in hell while ignoring Michael.

Wow! That's EXACTLY what I want to hear/see. The love and devotion above all else, despite harsh words, despite some occasional mistrust the love is always there and is eternal. Ash said it in Dark Side of the Moon, when Dean asked how come he and Sam were in the same heaven, that some people, special people can share heaven, they are the soul mates. Jensen's scene with his face all beat up vowing not to leave Sam was heart wrenching and this story brought it all back in droves *wibble* I loved it. Thank you for writing.

For me, it really just clicked that it wasn't a moment of supreme will power on Sam's part -- but rather, THEIR WHOLE LIVES that defeated Lucifer. With all the terrible positions they've been in, and the awful choices they've had to make, Sam and Dean have been heroes all along. Bobby said it best right? Sam is a good man, and so is Dean. Lucifer didn't stand a chance, really. :D

Thanks so much for your comment, and I'm so glad the story rang true to you.

O.M.G. I thought I couldn't cry anymore, but wonders of wonders.

I really, really, REALLY LOVE what you did to Lucifer here. It was a wonderful take on explaining what happened in the finale and answers so many questions simultaneously.

I ... I ... it's just wonderful.

I really appreciate your comments! thanks so much. I'm very glad you liked the story! Have a whole box of tissues.

I'm going to be poking at Lucifer's cage, so we'll see more of him, and whether this insight was a momentary aberration or a real change of heart.

*jawfloor*

You just made me want to cuddle the devil. There's... that's... I don't even... what. How did... what. WHAT.

Oh, man. That was gorgeous. Honestly, I got the impression that God might have wanted Michael and Lucifer locked in the cage together so that they could work out their own issues, but I kind of like this better. Lucifer was always associated with Pride, and that he was defeated by finally being humbled by the Winchesters' love... that's just poetic, right there.

*squeezes Sam/Lucifer* You are both such Woobies. ;-; And Dean. And hell, even Adam (face it, kid has the Winchester luck, and unlike Sam and Dean, no training to allow him to properly deal with it). But not Michael. >_> He's a dickface.

well, I did say in my disclaimer that I thank all the people who are of the devil's party ... so I'm pretty glad I made you want to hug him! :D

I do think it's pretty unlikely that Sam would actually "defeat" Lucifer, who is, after all, able to strike down gods and survive aeons in hell. But I think that Lucifer wasn't counting on Dean to sacrifice himself that way, just to be there for Sam -- and for all the memories Sam had of Dean and the Impala and his whole life to flash before his eyes -- Lucifer got a crash course in humanity, which is totally not what he was expecting -- but EXACTLY what could shock him into humility. :D

thanks very much for your comment!
