Awh! Jack was just so wonderful in this one. He kept the Doctor in line, that's for sure. And I like that Rose stayed strong even in a situation where she was emotionally hurt. That's very quintessentially her.

Thanks so much for reading and commenting! I love this triad; Jack is such a great character, and the way he interacts with Nine and Rose, and affects their interactions is really fun to look at. :)

I don't read a lot of OT3 but I really loved this. It made me wish there had been more episodes with the three of them together. Your Jack is a lot more developed than the glimpse they gave us of him in canon (and he's so changed by the time he runs TW). I love how he brings the Doctor and Rose together and becomes an integral and equal part of the relationship (and as I said I don't really do a lot of ot3).
Beautifully written too :)

Thanks so much -- I'm really glad you took the chance on the OT3!

Jack is a very cool character... I think it's not so much that he's so changed by the time he comes to Torchwood, as that he's really, really miserable, all the time... and at first, he has a potential for such sweet happiness. I ship Jack/Ianto, but it is a really tragic ship.... so in a lot of ways I like to write about what might have been between Jack and Rose and the Doctor. They fit together beautifully as a triad, and it's really fun to explore. I have a couple of other OT3 stories about them if you are interested. :)

"I'm putting this egg in lockdown," the Doctor said.

"You have a lockdown?" Jack asked, interested.

"No, but the Tardis has cupboards, and some of them lock, and that's the best I can do," the Doctor answered.

THIS. I snorted.

I'm not always a OT3 person, but when I am, I want Jack to be more than just a flirt. :) Nice job!

I find that the funny does come out when I'm writing Nine and Jack. They have a lot of comedy between them. :)

I definitely need Jack to be more than a flirt. I think even in the brief glimpses we get of him in Boomtown, it's clear that he wants to pull his weight to earn the Doctor's respect; he's careful always to defer to the Doctor and that's very intriguing to me. Plus the friendship between Jack and Rose is very easy to write and always (for me) has that impulse to become something more intimate. So it's really fun to write, and I'm so glad you enjoyed it. :)

Exactly! I tried to write a Boom Town-era story once in which Rose would have been very telepathically ill (this was the less-trope-y part), leaving the Doctor and Jack desperately trying to save her. I abandoned it in part because I couldn't build the bridge from Jack the Flirt to Jack the [Somewhat] Selfless in a way that seemed natural. The fact that you do this so well makes me happy. :)
