I really love Nine/Rose. To me there's something sad about Ten/Rose, the way he keeps something of himself held back until it's too late, but with Nine -- it's like she's always tearing him open, like he's always so vulnerable to her, and I love that. :)

That's it! I can't always quite put my finger on it, because overall, I think I prefer Ten/Rose, but there IS just something about Nine/Rose that just makes me zing, like the chemistry is more heated. Ten/Rose is sublime, Cloud-Nine-stuff, but yet--as you say--sad, because something is reserved. Nine is being opened, like a new bud.* It's more exciting, because you're not sure what's going to come out.
If that makes any sense.
