I LOVED the Jeremy Brett series! He was such a delightful @$$h0le to everyone, but you couldn't hate him.

That was a terrific, terrific TV show. :)

Not much of a Doyle fan myself. I think the problem was that when I was a kid, I loved the Conan the Barbarian books and I was thrilled to find a bunch I hadn't read by a guy named Doyle... and you see the problem. So I'm willing to withholding judgment on the casting of Downey & Law as long as they don't smirk. Stars have a tendency to smirk while actors only smirk if their character does.

I'm also going to sheepishly admit that I think most stories are more fun with the addition of martial arts and explosions. It's a personal failing that I'm not working very hard to correct, stemming again from that undying love of Conan...
