I'll be happy to post about the conference itself in another post. :) Right now, I'm all about getting info about how to get a bookseller there to sell our books.

I dont know about in the US, but i work in a bookshop in Australia, and my bosses are always taking stock out to author events. Last week the took $500 worth of stock to a Primary school for book week, and 3 months ago they went to Canberra's only fantasy convention and set up a stall. The major issue is that the convention organisers dont make it to difficut for them. One author speaking at the national science festival asked us to sell his mooks at his talk, but the festival organisers made it too difficult so there wasn't any bookstalls.

I hope this helped!

Thanks, Chelsea. So here's a question for you: (well, let's pretend you're in NYC an not in Oz) If I were to have approached you about this conference and I said, "We'd lie to have someone from your store come sell 30 authors' books at this conference," what would be next steps?

As you can tell, I've never done this before, and I'm rather clueless. :)

Glad to help. I have to warn you though that although I’m from Canberra (our capital city) we are really just a big town, so we don’t get many multi author events. This is just what Steve and Andrew, my bosses would do. I think you would have a better chance with independents, and franchises than chain stores though ( ... )

Jackie- if you call the local B&N and ask for the Community relations manager they might be able to help you. I am on the west coast or I would do it myself. (yes I am a bookseller) if you need more help, Caitlin and Mark both have my email and can pass it on to you.. ok.?

I don't know if its what you'd want. But I'd like contacting someone like Neil Clarke of Clarke's World would be a good idea.

I know he used to do cons as ClarkesWorld books... and now that he has the magazine going...

I would have to agree with contacting B/N or Borders or even and independent bookstore in the area of the conference.
