I love them. When I read a book I read everything. One thing I don't like is when an author gives away some plot or information that I would have found by reading normally.

Fantasy writer R.A. Salvatore sometimes has these in his newer paperback editions.

I hate hate hate when the letters are from the POV of the character, or the character being interviewed, or something similar.

I like when it's the author in hir voice, giving more background info or why s/he wrote the story.

I read author's notes, acknowledgments, etc., after I've read the book, for fear of spoilers.

Interesting that Luna's doing that again. I was asked to write one for Voice of Crow last year but not The Reawakened this year.

They asked me to do one for FREE FALL but not the mass reissue of STAYING DEAD or [so far] the upcoming trade of BLOOD FROM STONE, so there may be some pattern they're following that is not obvious to the authorial eye...

*facepalms*

Pray someone buys a new short story from me, so I can replace this old keyboard (so far, the w and s keys are sticking, and the 'r' seems to be joining them.... I blame the cats and their endless desire to sleep on my electronics)

I have the same problem with my keyboard...it's like 90% cat hair, 10% functional keys.

Although, that answer does damage my idea of NYC editors and their three gin martini breakfasts.
