If there are any 'hair schools' near you, students will do the professional hair dye for you at a fraction of the price (and they're supervised by instructors who offer advice and critiques before & during, so it's not as big a risk as it sounds). Aveda has schools all over and does this. It's where I go to take care of my hair and it's much cheaper. I've never been unhappy with the result. Just be forewarned it might take a bit longer than a regular appointment would since it is a student.

Otherwise...the Garnier box dyes are decent, as is the Loreal excellence creme or whatever it's called.

Don't choose a shade that is more than 2 or 3 brighter than your natural unless you're going to get it done professionally. Otherwise you will end up with a brassy/orangey tone.

Cause I haven't been dying my hair since 7th grade, or anything.

Was this Kaitlin? ;)

There -IS- a school here, just fifteen minutes down the road, but I'm gunna hold off on getting it dyed by somebody else until I know for sure that I can't do it on my own. And I might hold off on the box dyes until I know that I can't do it through natural means, because I'm lazy and don't really want to have to mess around with root-touchups every two weeks, and I'm hoping if I do it through like... chamomile washes, touchups won't be such a bitch

I stopped getting my hair dyed a long time ago from a salon and recently stopped using box dye. The best thing to do is check out youtube. Hairdying is relatively easy to understand once you understand it. It's really cheap to do when you go to sallys to get dye. I usually use the ion color. If anything try youtubing "ion blonde dye" and you'll probably find some helpful info.

I'll definitely Youtube it and see what I can find! (You must be the Youtube goddess!!! I try using Youtube for various tutorials... but I tend to fail at life. Like when I tried to learn origami from Youtube. FAIL. What should have been an elephant ended up as a crumpled ball of paper >:/)

I have no hair dyeing advice but girl that sounds AWESOME. I love Russian Red, but it doesn't look that good on me. Have you tried Viva Glam I?

I haven't! My thing with lipstick... is that it is so effin expensive, no matter what brand you're using. I have a "to-do" list where it is concerned (more of a "to-get" list). I really, REALLY want the LimeCrime "Retrofuturist" though. I have a friend who owns it... and she LOVES it

I'M afraid I know nothing about self-hair-colouring.

I'm sure you look great with your new makeup! What about a pic? : )

I didn't get a good picture, just because the camera batteries died, we didn't have any more, and my brother and I were taking funny pictures of one another.

As is seen here:

I -will- be repeating this amazing look again, though, and will try to remember REAL pictures next time. Ones that actually show off the make-up instead of showing how... dorky the two of us are
