You're not an insensitive jerk. 93 is a long life and the reality is that people's bodies just break down. Also, people that old tend to start to feel depressed and upset, first off because many of the people they knew and loved have passed on, and secondly because they can't do everything they used to. They aren't that upset at the prospect of death anymore. Believe me, my grandmother, who just passed in July, used to say "When are you going to get married, so I can die already?' XD
Yeaaaah. I know that my great-gramma IS starting to get depressed, outliving her siblings, her friends, her husband, and a lot of her children. And I know that she's hating not having the control over her life that she once had. I just tend to focus on the positive-- she's led a long, relatively happy life-- while other people are looking at the negative-- that she'll be gone soon. It makes me feel detached from other people because I'll be all, "... But she was ready to go!"
Thank you, Sweets, for letting me be detachedly-rational <3
