Re: Fallen- I have a habit of skimming reviews before I read a fic, just to kinda test the waters, see what to expect. And in one of the reviews, it mentions Kel having been raped? That's a DNW for me in fics, so I was just wondering if it was something that was followed up on or had long-term effects, or if it was just thrown in there and then never referred to again.

OK SO~ Kel's rape happens in the very beginning of the fic and sets the ball rolling in a lot of senses. It's the thing that triggers the start of her adventures so to speak. It's not graphic, it's not by a human, and yes - it does have long term effects (nightmares and such) but isn't really MENTIONED again but sometime's brought back to the reader's attention. The rape isn't a heavy aspect of the fic, but it is a part of what happens and the author handles it is a very non-confronting way.

I HOPE THAT HELPS ♥

I'm reading the story right now and just got past that part. I agree that it wasn't graphic, and that I think it's used as "the traumatic event to tip the scales" and to force Kel into action.

I'd suggest maybe trying to read and seeing how far you can get? I'm not very far into the story, but I have a feeling that a lot of what Kel deals with is a multitude of emotional scars, all of them originating at not being allowed to achieve her shield. The chapters are short and since the rape happens early enough on, it's not like you've sat through five hours only for it to slam into your face

Was that for me? ^_~ Yeah, I went ahead and read through it anyway. It wasn't graphic but it still kinda bugged me (really, really don't like rape in fics) but I did see that the author had it as a pivotal event and couldn't proceed with the story without it.

In a perfect world, governed by my desires, of course, she'd find another way to get Kel away on her adventures, but at least it wasn't too confronting as a reader (um, to the point where reviewers were asking if Kel was raped) and the plot itself was pretty good. And you're totally right, it really kills me when I get into a story and hours later, WHAM, and it's totally out of nowhere and shocking and you're all 'I wish I hadn't spent all this time reading this now'.

Also, lol at your icon!
