I followed the steps and got a really purple looking icon :S

I think step 5 may be wrong, I added yellow instead of making it a negative, and it looked more like your example...

sorry, I don't wanna tell you how to do your icons, but it could be a mistake. Unless I haven't followed or read it properly =]

see the tutorial doesnt have the same effect on every picture, some times you are gonna have to change it up :)
