Here we go again

Jun 10, 2012 20:05

Well. Slightly embarrassed to have been gone for basically a year. Sorry - there was Stuff, and lack of time and energy. But here I am again! Might take me a while to get back into the swing of things, and I don't dare make any promises about how much I'll be around, but I'm here now, at least.

I offer a fluffy ficlet as an apology.

Disclaimer: Not mine.
Rating: R maybe, but only for a tiny little bit of innuendo. Basically PG-13.
Summary: Justin makes a discovery.
Timeline: A week or so after 2.16

Little Brother

The knock on the front door came just as they were finishing up breakfast. Kevin stood up, kissed his husband - his husband! - and went to open the door.

“Hey, bro!” Justin didn't wait for an invitation, just came right in. “You guys decent?”

“If I say no, will you leave?”

“C'mon, I waited until you'd had a chance to get the honeymoon stuff out of the way. But I have something important to clear up with Scotty.” He grinned widely.

Something important? Kevin raised his eyebrows, but knew that the easiest way to find out what Justin was talking about was to just let him get around to it in his own time. “In the kitchen.”

His little brother clapped him on the back, and proceeded into the kitchen. “Hey Scotty.” He helped himself to a blueberry muffin. “This is good!” he announced with his mouth full.

“Of course it's good, Scotty made it. And don't be gross.” Kevin sat down again, shrugging when Scotty threw him a questioning glance. “Justin said he had to clear something up with you.”

“What's going on, Justin?”

Justin made a show of swallowing the last of the muffin before speaking. “Important business. Very important.” He leaned forward, putting one hand on the table as he looked into Scotty's eyes. “Those papers you guys filled out. All the info there was correct, right?”

“Of course,” they both said. Kevin's mind immediately began sorting through anything that could've gone wrong, methodically dismissing every possibility. He almost missed Justin's grin.

“Including your birthdate?”

“Yes.“ Scotty looked confused.

“You know his birthdate already, Justin. You came to his birthday party.”

“Oh, I knew the date, but not the year.” Justin circled around behind Scotty's chair. “You're younger than me.”

Oh, not the 'younger man' thing again. Kevin rolled his eyes. “Yeah, by a couple months.” Would his family ever stop teasing him about that?

“Still younger.” Justin leaned over Scotty again, from the other side now. “Which means that for the first time ever... I have a little brother.”

Scotty blinked, swallowed. “I...” He swallowed again.

“And do you know what happens to little brothers, Scotty?” Justin placed one hand on his brother-in-law's shoulder. “They get noogied!”

“Hey!” Sputtering, Kevin rushed to his husband's defense, but was too late to prevent a very thorough noogie. “Cut that out!”

Still grinning, Justin let go of Scotty and raised his hands. “I'm just fulfilling my duties. Every big brother has to noogie his younger brother, that's just the way it is.”

“Says who?” Kevin put himself between Justin and Scotty.

“You. Well, and Tommy. Mostly Tommy.” Justin gleefully cracked his knuckles. “And now it's finally my turn!”

“No. No way. You leave him alone.”

“But he's my little brother, Kevin! That means I have responsibilities!” Laughing, Justin danced aside before Kevin could grab him. “I'm done for today. Until next time!” He blew them a kiss before leaving, still with a huge smile on his face.

Kevin sat down again with a sigh. He glanced across the table at his husband, who hadn't moved since Justin had let him go. “Sorry about that. Like I told you, when you marry one Walker, you get them all.” When Scotty still didn't speak, he frowned. “I did warn you about that, didn't I?”

“He called me his little brother,” Scotty said softly, still staring at the empty air in front of him.

“Yeah, sorry. He's an obnoxious childish brat. I'll find some way to make sure he stops harrassing you.”

“No, Kevin.” Scotty turned to look at him, and his eyes were suspiciously shiny. “He called me his brother. I have a brother.”

Oh. Oh. “Yeah.” He felt a sudden need to clear his throat. “Yeah, you do. A whole family, in fact.” He put his hand on Scotty's knee, and Scotty's hand immediately grasped his. “And they're the invasive, clingy kind, too.”

Scotty laughed, his voice a little rough. “I don't mind.”

“Yeah, just give it time. After a week or two of Justin trying to noogie you every time he sees you, you'll wish you were an only child again.”

“Somehow I doubt that.” Scotty squeezed his hand again. “But I guess I could use a ton of product. He won't be so eager to touch my hair then.”

“Yeah, maybe, but... I want to be able to touch your hair without getting my hands all sticky.”

“Well, it wouldn't be the first time touching me got your hands sticky.” Scotty batted his eyelashes in a way that meant Kevin just had to lean in and kiss him.

“You should use that line on Justin,” he said when their lips parted. “Slightly modified, of course.”

“Maybe I will.” Scotty smiled, and kissed him softly again. “Now get ready for work. I'll clean up here.”

Kevin headed for the bedroom. Once out of Scotty's sight, he dialed his cell phone.

“Yeah,” Justin answered.

“Thanks.”

“For what?”

“What you said. It meant a lot to Scotty.”

“What, promising to noogie him every day?”

“No, you idiot. And you're not going to noogie him every day. In fact, you're never going to do it again.”

“Wanna bet?”

“If you do, I'll return the favor,” Kevin threatened.

“Yeah, right. Like you could reach that high.”

“I'll catch you sitting down. Or I'll get Tommy to help.”

“Too late, bro. Already talked to him, and he agrees that it's our solemn duty to welcome Scotty into the family properly. And on a regular basis.”

Oh, hell. Both of them? ”I'll get you for this.” Justin only laughed in his ear before hanging up on him. Well, shit. This wasn't good. He gave it some thought while picking out clothes to wear that day.

“Scotty?” he said as he reentered the living room. “I think maybe you were right about the hair product. The next time you're likely to come into contact with either of my brothers, use a ton of it. And if all else fails - tell Mom.”
