“Yes, those are your only options. Now choose wisely.”

“My, my Granger! We’ve gotten hostile, haven’t we?”

“I’m not hostile. I just don’t trust you.”

“Good. You shouldn’t. I don’t trust you much either. I don’t know what Theodore ever saw in you. If you ask me, your break up was the best thing that ever happened. Alas, I am not here to give my opinion on your failed relationship. I’m here to discuss the prophecy and what I know about it, which isn’t much to be honest with you.”

“If you don’t know much, then why bring it up?”

“Well, I had to say something to stop you from slamming the door in my face. Don’t look at me like that. It’s true. You were going to leave me out in the pouring rain and feel no remorse doing so. Admit it.”

“You’re not saying anything useful.”

“Who said I was going to?”

“Get out!”

“Wait! I know that the prophecy isn’t what you think it is.”

“What do you mean?”

“The missing prophecy isn’t about the fate of the Wizarding World. That rumor was spread so that Theodore would think that and be interested in stealing it to lure him into a trap. I always told Theodore to watch his back because he has enemies in high places, but he never listened to my warnings. I told him to stop selling things on the black market. He said this prophecy would fetch a couple of galleons, but it was all a lie.”

“What is the prophecy really about then and who would set this trap up for Theodore?”

“I don’t know what the prophecy is about. I can’t tell you who has it out for Theodore. I would be risking death if I did. I made a vow.”

“Please, don’t tell me you mean…”

“Yes, I made an Unbreakable Vow. Luckily for me this person wasn’t specific enough when it came to who I can discuss this information with. So that’s why I’m able to discuss this with you. This person told me that I couldn’t discuss it with any of my friends or co-workers. That’s as far as it went and since you are neither to me Granger…”

“Do you know if this person was the person who attacked Zabini?”

“I wouldn’t put it past this person to send someone after Blaise. I’m pretty sure Theodore’s next. If I were you, I would try to get out of this place immediately before something bad happens.”

“That’s great advice and I would take it except I don’t know where Theodore hid my wand.”

“Oh, that’s easy.”

“How’d you do that?”

“Magic.”

“But of course, why didn’t I think of that? That’s a perfectly acceptable response,” Hermione replied sarcastically. A few wand waves later and Hermione was a free woman. She went up to the bedroom she had occupied during her stay to get her things and afterwards headed for the door. Draco caught up with her, his black robe flowing behind him.

“Wait! That’s it? You’re just going to leave.”

“Yes. There’s nothing keeping me in Theodore’s home anymore.”

“Aren’t you going to try to help him?”

“I thought you said I should leave immediately before something bad happens.”

“I know I said that, but I didn’t think you’d take me seriously. I thought you still cared about Theodore and would try to help him out of this mess. Maybe even use that big brain of yours to find out who’s behind this entire thing.”

“I do care about him, but he got himself into this mess. Nobody told him to steal a prophecy from the Department of Mysteries, trap or not. He’s going to have to figure a way out of it on his own.”

The next morning Hermione returned to work. She wanted to report Theodore and press charges against him for kidnapping, but decided against it. He was going through enough with people plotting against him. She decided to meet up with Michael in his office to catch up on some work and Michael was surprised to see her.

“How are you feeling? Any better?”

“Yes, I am. I’m ready to get back to work.”

“Oh, well the paperwork on this case it at my flat now. You were gone for so long that I wasn’t sure you would return in time to help me solve this burglary. I can run over there and get it for you if you’d like.”

“I’ll go with you.”

Moments later they were in Michael’s messy flat. He ran into his bedroom to look for the paperwork while Hermione perused the living room as she waited. On the mantle nearby she noticed he had earned a few scholastic awards during his Hogwarts years. Next to the awards were a few photographs. One photograph in particular caught her attention. There were four men in the photograph. It was a photograph of Michael, his father and some of their associates. Michael couldn’t have been a day over seventeen. She blinked a few times. No, I have to be imagining things. That cannot be Theodore, she thought to herself. The photograph was a little worn, as though it had sat in the sun for too long, but she was seeing correctly. The men in the picture with Michael and his father were Theodore and his father. She recognized Theodore’s father’s beard and the eccentric robe color choice. He had always been an odd yet recognizable man.

“See something of interest?”
