A moment can turn into a memory. A memory can last a lifetime. A moment can feel like a lifetime. Since this is possible, a moment, a day, a month and eternity can be easily trapped in one another with no hope of escape. So how is it that hours are included in such a thought process? Are we in great need of such defining measures?
Alicia had to tackle this issue because it was something she was dealing with. Miles hadn't called in a few days and she was beginning to think the worse. She had expressed her desire for communication and he had promised to call her at the allotted time. It hadn't happened and with the war at it's peak she grew aggrieved. The only reason she had allowed him to leave was because she knew it was the best for both of them. He would do the work that needed to get done and she would accomplish goals she had set for herself.
She didn't expect the loneliness. At first she put this shield up, protecting her from the outside world. She would hear no words of sorrow, pain and death. These ideas were numbing and suffocating. Instead she kept her focus and turned off her emotions at the bat of an eye. That was her first mistake. Her second mistake was pretending everything was ok when inside she felt a void. The more lies she feed denial, the bigger the void grew. She refused to acknowledge the pain, labeling it as weakness. She could show no weakness in this time of great grief. When she lost Katie, that hurt her most and she wouldn't shed a tear.
"A moment becomes a memory, which becomes everlasting," that's what she told Miles when he asked her if she missed him. To this he could only smile hoping that meant yes.
