It had been years since Miles and Alicia broke up. It didn't end on good terms, but they had forgiven each other for the parts they played in the dissolution of their romance. Both dated their fair share of people afterwards, but there was always something missing. It didn't occur to either of them that they were trying to recapture the excitement they had before their relationship went sour. It took years of mulling things over for either to realize they were chasing something that didn't exist anymore. You can't repeat the past in the exact order of events and most people would agree that it wasn't a good idea to do it if you could.

Miles didn't know what compelled him to reach out, but he sent Alicia an owl on a sunny day in mid April. The seasons were changing and the optimism the cheery, spring days filled him with made him want to amend his past mistakes. He didn't know if she would respond and he didn't fault her if she didn't, but he had to try. A few hours later he heard from her and before either of them knew it, they were talking every day again.

Alicia made it clear she was seeing someone and that it was serious. Miles was unfazed by this because he wasn't intent on rekindling their romance. He just wanted to see if they could be friends after everything that happened. Months went by and it became obvious that they weren't the same people they were when they dated during their last years at Hogwarts. A lot had changed over the years and Alicia was curious if things changed for the better. Her curiosity led her to ask Miles out for dinner and drinks. He agreed.

Neither knew how they ended up in bed together, but it became obvious that they still had feelings for each other. They weren't surprised, but they were disappointed with the chance of hurting each other again.

"This isn't going anywhere," he told her simply.

"I know. You don't tend to stick around. I'm used to that. Don't worry my feelings won't be hurt. I don't intend on getting attached again," she replied.

And just like that the seasons had changed between them. It went from joy upon their first meeting and the courting process they went through to heartbreak from their separation to an enlightened peace now that they knew everything happened for a reason and that nothing he did to her could shake faith in life.
