It was over. There was nothing he could do. Miles had given up. He packed up his things and headed out the door. He reached out to Marcus Flint who was able to set him up with an apartment in his building a few floors above his own place. He found it ironic that on the day he was officially leaving Alicia alone for good it was raining outside and not just lightly either. He wanted to convince himself that this meant that the universe was sad for him and what was happening to the best relationship he had ever been in, but the truth was it didn't work like that. Magic was real, but that didn't mean that nature could sympathize with someone like him. He had done this to himself and now he had to pay the price. He didn't think the day would ever come, but he knew he should have appreciated his borrowed time.

"I know this isn't going to make a difference but I'm sorry I lied to you. I'm sorry I betrayed you. I'm sorry that I convinced you to give me a second chance. I appreciate it, but it's obvious that it caused you more pain than my actions did. I never thought that would happen, but what can you do? I was only thinking of myself and it's about time I started thinking about you. This is what's best for you," Miles said. These were his final words. He was going to make it a point to not see her ever again. He asked to be relocated to France for his job and it would take a week, but it was definitely happening. He waved goodbye as he left.

Alicia hated that things ended this way but she knew it was for the best. She knew that sometimes things had to fall apart in order to become whole again. She hadn't experienced sorrow this deep since her mother passed away and even then that was a different type of suffering. What she was feeling now was a combination of numbness with a tinge of regret. She kept asking herself if there was anything she could have changed but knew it wasn't just up to her. The relationship died when he stepped out on her and now she would heal from this by moving on. Apologies were nice, but sorrow was the true healer of souls.
