Bob watched with a critical eye as Harry sprinkled the green herb into the mixture. "Don't you think that's a bit much for the volume?"
"Nope." Harry dusted his hands off over the liquid. "It's exactly right."
"I doubt that," murmured Bob.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Not a thing," he replied, his tone clearly indicating otherwise. "You might want to turn down the flame. It's supposed to simmer slowly, not boil away to nothing." The ghost considered the thick red concoction. "Maybe if you add a bit of -"
Exasperated, Harry threw up his hands. "Bob! Will you stop hovering? I've made this thing a thousand times."
"Each time altering the original recipe, thus falling short of its full potential." Bob sniffed. "And I do not hover. That is a spectral misconception."
"It's spaghetti sauce, Bob. Not a recipe for disaster."
"That's debatable."
Tempted to throw the wooden spoon at the ghost, Harry instead turned back to the pan and began vigorously stirring.
"Of course, if your culinary repertoire went beyond how to transmute pasta sauce into myriad inedible variations, you might actually have more success with the ladies."
"That coming from a ghost who hasn't eaten anything in 800 years. Since when did you become a food critic?"
"I may not have the physical ability to ingest food but there are still some things I can taste if I touch their essence," said Bob defensively. "And I have an excellent memory of haute cuisine. That," he nodded at the red sauce, "Doesn't come close."
"You're a food snob."
"I'm a connoisseur. There's a difference," sniffed Bob. "You're boiling. Turn the heat down."
"You want a difference?" Harry quickly turned the gas flame to simmer. "I'll give you a difference. If you don't shut up about my cooking, I'm going to hand your skull over to the Burger King."
