"What you are describing is not love, Harry," Bob advised as he wrote out the afternoon's lesson. "It is teenage lust. Your affections for your mathematics classmate might feel like 'true love' to you but there is a difference. No doubt you will come to realize it one day when you are older."

Harry glowered at the ghost's back. "I bet you wouldn't know true love if it bit you on your bony ass," he grumbled under his breath.

It was exactly the sort of thing any red blooded, hormonally frustrated, semi-rebellious fifteen year old might say behind his teacher's back. Too softly to be heard, of course.

Unfortunately, most teachers were not dead, eight hundred year old sorcerers with preternatural hearing.

Bob's hand froze in midair, the glowing rune he had been inscribing abruptly truncated.

Oh shit, thought Harry with a mental cringe. I'm in for it now!

To Harry's surprise, his mentor offered no cutting rejoinder or snarky reprimand in that familiar, oh-so-coolly arrogant British voice of his. Instead, Bob dispelled the rune with a curt wave of his hand.

"I shall expect you here at four o'clock sharp on the morrow," he said stiffly.

"Huh?" Harry looked at the narrow suit-clad back without comprehension. "But what about-"

"Since your libido and your manners appear to be elsewhere this afternoon, you are clearly too distracted to attempt potion making. I doubt your uncle would thank me if he returned to find his nephew had turned himself into a frog."

"But--!"

"You are dismissed, Master Dresden," said the ghost curtly and abruptly vanished.

Bewildered, Harry turned to stare at the ancient skull sitting on the desk just a few feet away.

"Bob, wait! Was it something I said?" he asked the skull beseechingly.

The only reply was heavy silence.
