Here There be Ghosts "Harry."
"Yeah, Bob?"
"Don't forget your uncle's cane. I believe it rolled under the gurney in the confusion."
Harry stooped down and peered under the metal table. "I see it." Extending his free hand, he grabbed the loathsome black talisman and pulled it into the light.
"And your staff."
Still holding the cane, Harry wrapped his fingers around the shaft of the battered hockey stick laying a few inches away. It wasn't easy but with a little maneuvering he was able to hang on to both with one hand. "Okay. Got it." Standing, he glanced around the room. "Is that everything?"
"The bindings."
"Crap. I almost forgot about those." Walking to the other side of the gurney, Harry bent to retrieve the discarded strips of blue cloth emblazoned with yellow runes. "I wouldn't want Murphy to find these laying around in the morning. She's weirded out enough as it is."
Unfortunately, he encountered some difficulty retrieving the bindings because his hands were full of hockey stick, Justin Morningway's cane, and Bob's skull.
"You might find the task less difficult if you put the skull down--"
"Nothing doing. I'm not letting it out of my sight. It stays with me." Cradling the bony artifact protectively against his chest with one arm, Harry somehow managed to tuck the cane under the other before hooking the bindings off of the floor with the business end of the hockey stick. "See? Not a problem."
"You look ludicrous."
"It's three o'clock in the morning and we're in the city morgue. Who's going to see me?"
"You have a point."
"I also have a real strong desire to get the hell out of here. You ready?"
"Quite ready," replied Bob with a final glance toward the dirt-encrusted casket against the far wall. "I have had more than enough excitement for one lifetime."
