I never thought something like this could be possible.

I suppose I really shouldn't have sampled anything that came from Inui Sadaharu's blender. What are friends for, though. Even when you know it couldn't possibly end well, you will do almost anything for them.

I really wish I hadn't have.

I really wish I knew how a few simple vegetables ended up changing my DNA.

I was a cat for two days.

It wouldn't have been so bad, except that Sadaharu is allergic to said animals. He couldn't keep me near without his eyes burning and itching and his nose running. So he actually took me back to my family., who already had two cats. That was his reasoning. At least, that was what he told my mother, who has a soft spot for cute animals. It's why we ended up with two kittens from a litter that the cat of one my sister's friends had.

Sadaharu just said that I was staying with him for a couple of days, and since it was the weekend, my mother didn't think anything of it.

Mother had picked me up like I was a baby, and started scratching my cat belly. I must admit, it did feel good. That was when I started purring. I struggled a little, wanting to be set down, and she got the hint. I ran right upstairs to my room, diving under the bed.

There's a lot more under there for a cat. I found a few objects I thought had been lost forever. Or the other cats had hidden. A bit of light gleamed to my side. Oh, something shiny! I felt my tail wiggle just slightly, and I pounced on it. It was a candy wrapper I had missed the last time I cleaned my room.

I curled up into a ball under the bed. I wasn't going to leave here. Then biology had to kick in, and I must admit, I was rather scared as I approached the litter box we keep in the upstairs bathroom for the cats. I stare at the granules in the box, wondering if either of the other cats had used it yet. The situation was getting desperate though, so I pretty much had no choice. I found out that instincts do change when you change into a completely different species.

With that little adventure over, I thought I would be safe if I just hid under my bed until this either wore off, or Sadaharu found a way to remedy the situation. Unfortunately I ran into one of the other cats. It was Ash, who sniffed at me. I tensed a little, and a little hiss escaped my feline mouth.

Ash mewed at me. And oddly enough, I understood it better than I ever had as a human. 'You smell like the young tall human." I stood in a defensive posture, but he just walked off like he usually does. I sat down, wrapping my tail around myself.

I think I had just dodged a bullet…or rather claws, there. Or at least I had until Willow came up to me and pulled the same trick. She was a bit meaner about it though. She bopped me on the head with her forepaw, then started licking me. I know that's how cats bathe, and I had seen her do this to Ash before. It was a bit humiliating though. I hissed at her, lifting the front part of my body up, and throwing her off. She hissed at me, I hiss back, and we ran off.

I made it back into my room, thankfully. I stood on the floor, looking up at my bed. I know cats are good jumpers, but it seemed impossibly high to actually make it. You never know until you try though, so I took a running leap, and barely made it. I walked across the bed, and laid down by my pillows. I scratched at my ear, which was rather itchy for some reason, and then my paw started itching. Yet another cat instinct kicked in and I started methodically bathing. That was weird, and I'd rather not remember that, especially the part about licking my own genitals and nether regions.

I let out a rather large yawn, and stretched out. It felt like a good time to take a nap. It lasted longer than any nap I had ever taken as a human.

I was woken up by mother picking me up and carrying me down to the kitchen. The cat food bowl was filled up with…normal wet cat food. I looked up at her, giving her a dirty look, and…meowed at her. I had forgotten I was one of the four legged beasts. I was not going to eat cat food though.

"It's cat food. You're a cat." Mother said. "If I didn't know better, I'd swear you were human." She mutter as she walked off.

I sighed, and went and nervously sniffed at it. It was not at all appetizing. I mewed softly, the other two cats looking at me. Apparently my mew must have translated to 'I'm sorry' because they both looked at me as I crawled back upstairs.

I curled up against my pillows and went back to sleep.

When I awoke, it was dark, yet I could see perfectly. It was strange, but seemed intriguing. So I went wandering through the house. It was much different from a cat's perspective. I could fit through spaces I couldn't as a human. I just wish my tail didn't keep getting in the way. I knocked over a few things with it that I didn't mean to.

Exploring got a little boring, and then I had a thought. It had been years since I could do this, and I might as well make the best of a bad situation. I jumped up on my parent's bed and snuggled in between them. It was quite warm and comfortable. I'm just glad they didn't realize their teenage son was in the body of a cat.

I woke up to being petted on the back. It made me purr again. That is a disturbing feeling, really. I stretched out. It was just mother. "You're so skinny." She finally noticed. "I know he's not here right now, but you kind of remind me of my son." She said. If I could have laughed, I would have. I tilted my chin up and had a rather proud look on my face. If only you knew, Mother.

I again skipped eating, but I did drink some water as that was more important. Then I spent the day in my room. I chased the candy wrapper again. It was rather entertaining.

It was at that point that I hoped that Sadaharu could fix this today. I looked around, and hoped that no one had noticed me playing with the wrapper. I had my pride after all.

I now understood why cats napped so much. They had nothing better to do. Though I did like the being petted part. I wandered downstairs, knowing since it was the weekend that mother would be in the kitchen baking. I jumped up in my usual kitchen chair and mewed softly. Mother turned and looked at me, shaking her head.

"Silly cat. These aren't for you." She said. I knew that, though I was a bit mad since those were my favorite muffins. I felt her scratch my ears, which felt good. I was plotting to steal a muffin when she wasn't looking though. I still wasn't going to touch the cat food. I don't care if it's made with "real" ingredients. It still looked gross…though it didn't smell too bad. I jumped down onto the floor as mother pulled out her second batch of treats, I leaned up on the oven door to see what she had, and got kicked out of the way.

"I guess black cats are a bit unlucky." She said, smiling. "You're rather cute though." I just mewed at her, and ran off, since I was in the way.

I forgot about the muffin.

I had curled up on the couch for a nap. I now know why they're called cat naps. The doorbell had rung, and I ran right up to the door, almost like a dog. I was really hoping it was Sadaharu.

Thankfully it was. I mewed at him questioningly. Mosther was a bit curious. "I know I only brought him here yesterday, but I managed to find a permanent home for the cat." He smiled. Mother knew it was only temporary, but she still seemed a bit upset. I rubbed up against her leg. It will be alright soon, Mother, I promise. You'll have your son back instead of an unlucky black cat.

Sadaharu picked me up. That was weird. "Mreow!" I screeched at him. He lowered his voice. "It's this or a carrier." I calmed down. I wondered how his allergies were going to react. He bowed to my mother. "Thank you for taking care of him. I hope he wasn't an inconvience."

"Not at all." Mother said. "And tell Renji I baked his favorite muffins, so he'd better get home soon."

Sadaharu paused. "Ah. I will." He said, and turned to leave with me in his arms.

I still didn't like the feeling of being carried like a baby. Then again, I was roughly the same size, so I guess it didn't really matter.

"I'm sorry about this, Renji." Sadaharu apologized quietly while he carried me back to his home. "Honestly, if I had known, I would have never had you try it."

I reached a paw up and batted at his glasses. I guess it was an 'I forgive you' gesture because he chuckled softly at it. It was more I was trying to hit him upside the head for doing this in the first place. However, I did volunteer, so it was as much my fault as his.

We arrived at his home finally. He set me down on the floor. "I hope you've been alright. And I hope this works, since I was flavoring it more for a cat's palette."

…It was milk laced with tuna juice. I looked up at him, giving him a dirty look. There were some other things mixed in as well. Hey, wait, there was actual tuna in it! Why did I get excited over that. I sighed. I tried the original, I might as well try this. Besides, it's been a day since I had actually eaten anything. I lowered my face to the bowl and started eating it. It tasted horrible, even for what Sadaharu thought a cat would like.

I looked up at him. I curled up on the couch. If this was supposed to fix things, it wasn't working. I fell asleep…or unconscious. It was hard to tell which.

I was shaken awake. "Renji?" Sadaharu was cautiously calling my name. I blinked.

"Let me sleep." I murmured, rolling over. Then I realized I had spoken in words that made actual sense. My eyes opened completely, and I was smiling. "I guess it worked after all." I then realized there was a distinct lack of clothing on my body. I blushed a little as I realized that. Not like we had never seen each other naked before, but it was still a bit embarrassing.

Sadaharu passed me my clothes that were left there from the initial transformation. "I'm sorry." He said quietly as I got dressed.

"I volunteered, Sadaharu. Entirely not your fault. I'm as much to blame as you are." I said, scratching above my ear. It was nice to have hands and feet instead of paws.

"You made a rather plain cat." Sadaharu said, grinning.

I just looked at him.

"I think if anyone knew, they would have thought it was you." He explained.

"No one would have believed it. I wouldn't have believed it if it hadn't happened." I said, relaxing a bit. "I'm never trying anything you make ever again."

Sadaharu smiled. "Are you sure?" He asked. "I'm sure there are ones that won't turn you into a cat."

I glared. "You'll have to find something that will erase my memory of this first." I grinned at him. "Besides, if you wanted a pet, I'm sure I could find some cat ears and tail. At least you wouldn't be allergic to me." Sadaharu's face went completely red at that. I was satisfied with that reaction. "And I owe you some allergy pills." I said, standing up to leave. There were muffins waiting for me.
