Summary:  Walter and Kitty have a nice chat.  XD

Kitty walked slowly through the Chinese countryside, her parasol at a jaunty angle over her shoulder, her faithful guard a few feet behind her.

Why on Earth had she complained about the heat before? It was wonderful - in a sort of luxurious in a way. It was simply fabulous not to have to carry an umbrella or a coat with oneself when one wanted a walk.

She made her way down a path when she heard voices. Looking through the undergrowth, she spied blonde hair. Walter! It could only be him. She walked a bit further.

Yes. He was discussing something with a Chinese man. There was a very large ox nearby. Another marvel, Kitty thought. Who had dreamed she’d see such creatures up close? She'd never have gotten the chance to see one in England.

Walter had brought her all this. All these new sights and sounds.

She approached him. The morning sunlight caught on his hair, bringing on the gold amongst the dark blonde. His eyes really were an incredible shade of blue, she mused. Funny how she hadn’t noticed that before. And did she imagine it, or did he fill out that plain white shirt a little more now?

Perhaps it was because she’d had a chance to appreciate the body beneath the shirt, last night.

Walter excused himself from the Chinese man he had been conversing with. “What are you doing all the way out here?” he asked.

Kitty hesitated. She recognised something. A few days ago she might’ve said, “I wanted a walk.” Or, “None of your business.”

Today she said, honestly, “walking off a crippling hangover.”

A slight flicker of friendly amusement showed in Walter’s face.

Kitty asked, “What are you doing?”

It struck her that this was perhaps the first time that they were having a conversation - a proper one, a friendly one - and they were both enjoying it.

I suppose we aren’t strangers anymore, are we?
