I always wondered which of us was more like the air. I always wondered if we really breathed the same air, the same scents - sweat, hard work, the distant trees that fragranced the air.
I always thought it was me, and then I realized something. I had become the wind. Wind is not the same as air. It may be air that is in motion, but that was the difference. I moved. I never stayed in place for long.
Even after finding somewhere I belonged, I still wasn’t at peace. I had to go from that place as well. I had to find something better.
While you were content to stay where you had always been - you thought things would always be the same. You weren’t the wind, you were the air - you supplied me with the building blocks. Just like you had always done. Just like I did for your tennis. I gave you the fundamentals, but you never adapted them properly.
In the end, it came down to whether or not you could capture the wind.
Wind can’t be captured. It can only be redirected. And then there was the demon that couldn’t be tamed that used the wind to his advantage. Knowing how to do that was the advantage, even as the wind tried to tame the beast. Just because you knew me, the wind, you revealed just how much you were just stale air.
You had not learned to move with the wind. You never knew the proper reactions. You never had the right data.
I will always be the one that is in motion.
I will always be one step ahead of you. Air can be caught. And you are the air that supplies the wind.
