"Sadaharu? What are you doing here?" Renji asked his old friend. Inui blushed. He wasn't really prepared for this.

"Ah...Renji. I'm...actually here to see your sister." Renji blinked back his surprise, but allowed Inui into their house.

"And might I ask why you're here to see Kana?" Renji asked quietly.

There just is no comfortable way to admit to your former best friend that you're dating his older sister.

"She hasn't told you yet?" Inui asked, looking a bit shocked.

"Renji, who's at the door?" Kana asked, coming down the stairs. "Oh...Sadaharu-kun..." Kana bit her lip.

"What is going on?" Renji asked, glancing at the clock. He was supposed to go out with Mizu in about a half hour.

"The train was a bit early." Inui said, looking between the Yanagi siblings, and suddenly understood why Kana had been so secretive. "You haven't told him." Inui suddenly realized.

"I'm sorry, Renji." Kana said quietly, hugging her brother. "Sadaharu-kun and I are dating."

Renji stood stock still in shock. "Sadaharu?"

Inui nodded, blushing a little. "I was going to tell you, but I just couldn't find the time."

"He's why I've been going to Tokyo every week." Kana said.

Renji looked at Inui, feeling more hurt than ever. "How long did you think you could hide it?" Renji asked, not expecting an answer as he grabbed his wallet and keys off the dining room table. Renji slid his shoes on, and started out the door.

"Renji!" Inui called after him, the door being shut in his face.

"Give him some time to get used to the idea, Sadaharu-kun." Kana said, wrapping her arms around him. "I'm sure he'll come around to the idea."

"You're distracted tonight, Renji-kun." Mizu said, holding on to Renji's arm as they walked downtown to the cinema.

"My sister is dating my former best friend." Renji said. "Don't worry about it."

"Renji-kun, I'm going to worry because you seem off." Mizu stopped, and turned to face Renji. "Besides 'former' implies that he's not your best friend currently. And if he and your sister like each other, I don't think you really have a say in what either of them do." Mizu leaned up on her toes and kissed Renji.

"It just doesn't seem right. It's not that I'm jealous, but I can't describe how I feel about it right now. It's just...I'm shocked."

"I think you're feeling a bit betrayed as well." Mizu said, pulling Renji along with her. "Let's get through our date, and then if you're still feeling in need of therapy, I'll listen." Renji smiled at that.

"Thank you, Mizu." He said, wrapping his arm around her waist.

They went about their date like usual, they watched a movie that neither of them could remember the plot as they were too busy paying more attention to each other.

They stopped for something to drink before Renji invited her to his house. Mizu nodded, and walked close beside him to stay warm. "How are you feeling about Kana-san?" She asked as they walked.

Renji sighed. "I'm not sure. I'm more angry at Sadaharu than I am at Kana."

"Kana-san is family. Sadaharu-san isn't." Mizu simplified it. "It's easier to be mad at someone you're not related to."

Renji nodded as he unlocked the door. Mizu followed him in, removing her shoes. "It's oddly quiet." Renji said, leading the way upstairs. Mizu nodded in answer.

"Except for that creaking..." She said. Renji paused near the top of the steps as he heard it too.

"You know where my room is. Go on ahead." Renji told Mizu, and headed towards the source of the creaks. Renji paused just outside Kana's room where the noise seemed to be the loudest. Renji knocked once, then opened the door to Kana's room. "Kana, what..." Renji trailed off as he saw something he never really ever wanted to see. Renji's eyes opened wide at the sight of his best friend on top of his sister, apparently in the midst of making love to each other. Once he got over the shock, he quickly apologized quietly and turned back and headed into his own room.

Mizu blinked when Renji came in. "Renji?" She asked quietly, standing up and pulling him to his bed and sat him down. "Are you alright?" She asked once she was face to face with him.

"Kana...Sadaharu..." Renji was still quite shocked. Mizu wrapped her arms around him. "They...they were..." Renji's voice dropped to a whisper. Renji blinked, then looked somewhat angry. "I'm going to kill him." He said, trying to stand up. Mizu pushed Renji back down on the bed and straddled his chest.

"You are not going to kill him." She said. "You are going to sleep on that first. Then, if you still want to kill him in the morning, fine." Mizu said, unbuttoning the dress shirt Renji had worn on their date. Renji smiled and wrapped his arms around her.

"I knew there was a reason I love you so much." Renji said as someone knocked on the door. "At least we're not doing what they were..." Mizu rolled off of Renji to let him open the door.

"Remember, no killing." Mizu reminded him. Renji laughed a little and opened the door a hair.

"Renji, can we talk?" Inui asked. Renji glared at him a little. Mizu nodded.

"I think you two need to." She said, pulling a book off of Renji's shelf. "I'll be right here, Renji." She said, settling down on the bed once again.

Renji nodded at Mizu and went downstairs with Inui, and went to fix some tea. It gave Renji's hands something to do. "Why, Sadaharu?" He asked quietly, making sure the kitchen was clean so he wouldn't strangle his friend.

"Renji...Why do you like Shindo-san? It's just...there's something there between us that's unexplainable. It's not because I've ever seen her as a sister figure, despite our growing up together." Inui sat down, trying to hold on to what little pride he had left.

"Sadaharu..." Renji looked away. "When did you two get together?"

"Last year. I saw her at a college fair, and we started talking, and...one thing led to another." Renji nodded. Kana was involved with the university's student government, so it wasn't unusual for her to be at fairs in other cities as the university's representative.

Renji poured two cups of tea, and set one in front of Inui. "Do you love her?"

"Renji, if I didn't..." Inui trailed off, not wishing to bring up the event from earlier again. Renji nodded in understanding.

"I really don't have any say in who my sister dates, honestly, nor should I be telling you who you can and can't date. I'm just glad that I can trust you to not do anything too stupid." Renji smiled a little, sipping at the tea. Inui laughed.

"So we have your blessing?" Renji nodded.

"Grudgingly, but like I said, I can't decide your lives for you. You two had better be married before I see any nieces or nephews though. Because I will not hesitate to introduce a kitchen knife to your genitalia if not." Renji smiled innocently.

"I understand." Inui said. "About earlier..."

"I don't want to hear it, Sadaharu." Renji said. "I know I'm the younger sibling, but I'm rather protective of my family, especially once I was taller than Kana. I mean what I said. And I'll be alright. I'd rather forget what happened though."

Inui nodded. "I wanted to tell you earlier, and Kana told me she was going to tell you. I'm sorry it seemed like we were sneaking around behind your back." Renji just nodded, and washed up the dishes they had used. "Still friends?"

Renji smiled. "As long as you don't hurt her in any way, yes."

Kana came down the stairs. "Renji?"

"I'm not going to kill Sadaharu." Renji said quietly. "I understand, but I would have appreciated it if you had just told me."

Kana blushed a little. "He's your best friend."

"Who can make his own decisions." Renji answered in turn. "It's between you two, really. I want you both to be happy."

Kana smiled. "I knew you'd understand. It wouldn't be right for you to hate Sadaharu over something so trivial."

Mizu came downstairs as well. "Everything alright?" Renji smiled at her.

"I think it is now." Renji said. Kana and Sadaharu exchanged a knowing look as Renji held Mizu to him tightly.
