The first dress Ilsa bought when the war ended and she and Victor finally had some money was an orange Dior evening gown. She loved it enough to wear it to breakfast, tea, lunch, and while cleaning the house. It was her symbol. The war was over, and it was time again to wear bright colors and waste fabric.
That dress, for Ilsa after the war, did more for her than Rick and all of Paris had during it. And no wonder.
Victor, pleased that she was happy, bought her another one. All white, which was actually even less practical. Ilsa loved the white dress, but not as much.
