The Park, Saturday Morning

Apr 22, 2017 16:22

The portal opened where it always did, nestled in the center of the park. Its colors swirled into existence early in the morning, casting eery light onto the grass below.

It didn't remain eerie for long.

The first set of tiny feet came through at sunup.

Many more followed.

Helena had stepped through a portal. It had been an accident, really, but even if it hadn't been she would have done that. She was brave after all.

There was no sign of either of her parents on the other side, which was unusual, since she was used to portals transporting her between their respective worlds, but the place looked familiar. And she wasn't alone.

Perhaps one of the others would be up for doing something fun.

Angela was definitely going to step through the portal. She wasn't going to miss the chance to see her fathers so young again; it was always fun. So she was here and looking around with a smile, even as she reached out with her mind to find her Dad.

"Angela!" A little whirlwind came barreling at her, grinning hugely. Samar couldn't be worried when their big sister was here!

What a weird place! Anan looked around, eyed the other kids just a little suspiciously, and then nodded decisively. Well, when in someplace you didn't know, the best thing was to go exploring!

Rain came barreling through the portal as if being chased by a mob of douchebags. Which she was.

She skidded to a stop when she registered that she was not only no longer being pursued, but she wasn't remotely where she had been a second ago.

Oh! I'm back!

Del dropped her bookbag and got a tight hold on her brother. "Alex..." Her eyes were wide with terror.

They'd ended up in the one place neither of them ever wanted to see again.

"Yeah. Fandom." Was the teen's tight reply as he looked up at the sky. "And it's not cold. Come on. Let's get to the dorms while there's sunlight and figure this out."

They ran as if their lives depended on it... because it once had.
