Alluka wasn't very sad when she wandered into work--late, but she'd been up late and then woken up late and the whole day had just followed that way--but she did have the stuffed elephant that Kathy had given her instead of one of her usual companions, which meant she was at least a little sad

Ringo wasn't really shopping for new clothes, but she still pulled a cute dress and some comfortable-looking skirts off the racks to take a closer look at.

Then she headed back toward the counter where she'd left Alluka, sort of humming as she held the dress in front of her and looked down at it.

Alluka had gotten the tea out, and set up the cuts, and had the water heating up. She'd gotten to the point where she was arranging the cookies on the platter when, gently, she was shunted to the side again.

Nanika stood there, her back to Ringo's approach, staring down at the cookies.

Maybe she'd eat them all? She wanted cookies...

"This dress is pretty cute, right?" Ringo asked without looking up. "It's actually a lot like one of the first ones Kathy ever helped me buy."

Ringo trailed off, her mood already back to darkening a bit at that particular reminder.

Nanika glanced over her shoulder, holding a cookie.

"Is it?"

She sounded interested, though not as interested as Alluka would have been.

"Yeah."

Ringo sighed. "I wish Kathy were still alive." She held the dress up and away from her, then let her hand fall to her side. "So she could see this.

Nanika's empty eyes and mouth smiled. "Okay," she said, blandly cheerful and impossibly confident.

Wish granted...

As soon as she could touch Kathy.

Nanika made a noise of impatience. "Where's Kathy?"

How was she supposed to grand this wish without her?!

Ringo blinked, not really piecing everything together yet.

"Um, she went back, remember? So she's probably, uh, wherever you go when you die? Or, if you mean her body, LA, I guess?"

But why ask?

Nanika turned to fully stare at Ringo.

"Kathy," she said firmly. "Kathy, Kathy, Kathy. Need to touch Kathy."

"Uh. Nanika?" Ringo frowned. "Where did Alluka go?"

"Um, do you want more muffins?"

Wait. Touch Kathy?

"Why do you need to touch Kathy?"

"Heal Kathy," Nanika said, like Ringo was being stupid. The stupidest. This was a waste of time.

Where was Kathy?

"Touch Kathy. Kathy, Kathy, Kathy."

"Uh, she's not here?" Ringo said, beginning to get worried. In fact, Ringo had no idea where she was.

Nanika sounded very demanding, and it made Ringo feel a bit uncomfortable.

Nanika didn't state it accusingly, just as a matter of fact.

"Kathy, Kathy, Kathy."

She needed to heal Kathy.

"I didn't mean to!" Ringo said quickly, starting to panic.

As if it weren't way too late for that.

That didn't matter. Intent never mattered, not when it came to whether or not she'd grant a wish.

Ringo had wished.

She had to heal Kathy.

"Kathy, Kathy, Kathy..."

Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap. Ringo was in way over her head here.

"Um. We'll have to get her?" Ringo offered, hoping that might placate Nanika for the moment. "How about we, um, finish tea and go to your room?" she suggested hesitantly. Buy time while Ringo came up with an actual solution to this mess she'd made?
