Parents' Weekend Meet & Greet, Friday afternoon, The Park

Sep 30, 2016 00:31

The weather in the park was cool, crisp and pleasant. Not too hot and not too cold. If Goldilocks was attending the school she would have called it "just right." The traditional decorated tent had all been set up, complete with various tables, an expansive buffet which included a grill and barbecued items, and the all important shadowy corners ( Read more... )

Go on! Mix it up! Chat with other parents. Wonder at the weirdness that is Fandom!

"Beyond a level of training and state of mind?" Jalian perked up; that sounded interesting. "How do you read it?"

"It is hard to explain," Brianna said. She tilted her head, trying to judge Jalian and how much she was willing to share with the girl. "We are taught to treat combat like language. Each move is a letter, with which you can build words and sentences. If you learn how to speak it, and speak it well, it becomes possible to listen, to see how the course of battles will flow before a single punch is thrown."

Mical was sending another babysitting squad, so Atton was waiting around, politely, to come meet them.

And okay, fine. Maybe he'd missed Mira. They didn't cross paths enough these days. Didn't mean he wasn't going to sit down somewhere and watch for them instead of seeking them out, though.

Which he was doing. Sitting, and watching.

There was a large woman with square hair at the picnic today, leaning back ever so casual against one of the trees. The figure she cut was, to say the least, imposing, but she didn't seem to be doing anything, really, but standing there.

Occasionally she would smile to herself, as if reacting to some kind of inner dialogue. She certainly didn't appear to be looking for anybody in particular, at least, not at the moment. Though she'd make a point of looking for Steven later. She'd have to. He wasn't her Steven, but then again, every Steven was her Steven, in a way.

Look, it made sense if you had future vision.

"Ohmygod, I love your outfit," Jan gasped. Because of course she did.

Well, Garnet was rather fond if it, for various reasons. A little smile ghosted over her lips, and she nodded toward the human woman politely.

"Thanks," she said easily. "I made it myself."

This was more or less true.

Jan grinned at that, perking up even more because fashion, motherfucker. Do you speak it?

"I'm Janet."

Oh, Garnet spoke fashion, alright. She also played a mean keytar and smashed things like nobody's business.

"Garnet," she said, simply. "It's a pleasure."

... She was not great at conversation, but at least she had the basic niceties down.

So, basically Jan's new best friend. Sorry, Carol.

"Who are you here to see?"

"Two people," she replied, looking out over the picnic thoughtfully. "Though one isn't really mine, and the other... Isn't either, in a different way. It's complicated. They're both students here."

And she fully intended to terrify one of them shamelessly the entire time she was here.

The other would get hugs.

That was almost like her plans too! Although she wouldn't be threatening Tony. But she'd be hugging Steve a lot because if Tony thought he needed a hug, he probably needed a million of them.

"Awww," Jan said because she was a big ol' bleeding heart like that. "Want me to keep an eye out for them?"

Garnet considered that for a moment. She was briefly tempted to say, 'no thanks, already have three,' but thought better of it.

"If it isn't any trouble," she replied. "One is Steven. He'll be in a red shirt, with a yellow star on the front. The other is Peridot."

How to even begin to describe Peridot?

"Green. Triangular. Can't miss her."

Jan could shrink down and zap people with bio-electrical blasts. Glass houses.

"I'm looking for a Steve too," she said, committing those descriptions to memory. "Tall, blond... also a little triangular."

Like a Dorito!

"And Tony. He's shorter and has a goatee."

Garnet's eyebrows quite possibly raised a little at that, though it would be difficult to tell, given the way they were obscured by her visor, and all.

"Students are getting older and older these days," she mused. Completely straight-faced.

It was probably a joke.

It was hard to be sure.

"Um. They're teachers?"
