When Jalian arrived at Stark's today, there was a...thing...in the middle of the floor. It looked mostly as if someone had smashed a toaster oven...radio ( Read more... )

Ringo had gotten, well, distracted for most of the day. The weather had just been too nice not to spend it AirTrekking. At some point in the afternoon, though, she'd remembered what day it was, and what time.

She headed over to Stark's at top speed and was sort of relieved to find it still open when she arrived. "Hello?" she called, looking around for Jalian. "Anyone here?"

[ooc: I knew I was forgetting something on a Saturday! I'm down for SP if you are, but if you'd rather not start something so late, we can always do a thread another time!]

Jalian looked up. "Ringo! Hello - over here."

[That's fine; I was late, too! I'll be SP today anyway.]

"Jalian!" Ringo grinned slightly in relief. "I was worried I might miss you."

[ooc: SP for everyone! :D]

"I'm here most of the day," Jalian said. She set aside the communications...thing and stood. "I've only been fixing things."

"Yeah, but I, um, sort of forgot I was going to come visit." Ringo tugged awkwardly at one of her pigtails for a moment. "But I'm glad I remembered."

"Me too." Jalian nodded. "You want to learn to build a probe, then?"

[Sorry! I'm back!]

Ringo nodded eagerly. "Yeah!" Partially because it kind of sounded interesting, but mostly because she wanted to help.

[ooc: No worries, and welcome back!]

Jalian nodded and went over to where she kept her things. "Here." She handed Ringo a completed probe - a small, almost bird-like machine. "This one's finished."

Ringo turned it over in her hands, examining it closely. "Wow. This is, like, really impressive," she ultimately decides.

Jalian shrugged. "They don't take long with the right parts. I can show you." She got out the assortment of vacuum tubes and wiring that made up most of them and showed those to Ringo next. "These, you see?"

"Some of these I know what to do with, but a lot of them I don't think I've seen before?" She cocked her head curiously, reaching out to carefully sort through some of the parts just to make sure.

"They're old," Jalian explained. "Before circuits. A probe goes through thousands of timelines a minute; each one may have different physics. Circuits are too sensitive; these take longer to break."

"Oh." Wow. "Making them durable makes a lot of sense, then."

She pursed her lips. "I guess there are a, um, lot of timelines, then?"

"An infinite number," Jalian said. She sighed. "That's why it takes so long to find a specific one."

And why they might never find it, but she wasn't thinking about that.

"So even thousands a minute isn't very many, huh?" Ringo took a deep breath and nodded to herself. "Then I suppose I should get to it, huh?"

Jalian smiled. "Here, I'll show you."
