Fandom High 20 Year Reunion Brunch, The Park, Sunday Morning

May 29, 2016 04:15

Hopefully, everyone still had a little socialization in them yesterday after the mixer. There was still plenty of Tamsin's booze reserves to be shared, which would go nicely with all of the breakfast foods being served.

Each of the tables had a pot of coffee as well, just in case that was needed. There was no glitter in the coffee, promise.

"I shudder to think." Hannibal shook his head. "Certainly nothing I'd want to cook with. I suppose we'd best keep an eye on them, just in case."

Excuse you, Hannibal.

Kanan was going to just raise an eyebrow in your direction and smirk.

Hannibal gave Kanan a look right back. And all the amused exasperation that went with it; you stayed married to a telepath for twenty years, you learned a few tricks.

"I'll keep an eye on it. Two, even. You can try coaxing it away from the other trees."

"I'm sure I can handle keeping our hypothetical melon vines away from the pillow tree," Kanan replied, still smirking. "I might even find a different place to plant them. On the side of the garden opposite of the trees, perhaps."

That seemed like a good start.

"Next to the T-shirt trees?" Hannibal asked pointedly.

If melon pillows would be a disaster, melon shirts?

Maybe they would just be melon patterned?

"Only on this ridiculous island would something like 'can I crossbreed a melon with a t-shirt' even be a question, you know."

"I'm well aware," Hannibal agreed. "Then again, only here could most of us have ever met."

He considered that to be a definite benefit of the island.

Kanan spent a fair bit more time on the fence about that one. Fandom had been good for him, though not necessarily good to him over the years.

"An island of unlikely combinations. That sounds like Fandom, alright."

Hey, lurking. Atton was perfectly fine with that.

Atton was also carefully sipping on a mimosa, because that was actually drinkable, and keeping an eye on the locals.

There were certain brands of - mostly hidden - paranoia you just never shook off.

Two Jedi and a Sith were all lurking by a park...

There was probably a joke there. Not a very funny one.

"Ahsoka."

Kanan didn't make a move toward her. Didn't even turn his face in her direction. He just nodded, a small frown on his lips. He wasn't going to admit just how much it bothered him that she'd turned to the Dark Side. He really had no room to speak, in that regard. But she had been one of his first students here, and she'd had so much potential. Sith or not, while they were here, he could be pleasant.

Nevermind that all told, he had his own reality's Ahsoka to thank for Hera being involved in the rebellion that had led to him meeting her in the first place.

Diverging timelines were complicated, that way.

Why did everyone assume that because she wasn't beating her breast over it, she'd merrily skipped down this path?

"Jarrus," she said neutrally. She was hardly looking to start a fight, but it wouldn't be hard to end one with someone who barely strayed from Soresu...who wasn't Obi-Wan at least.

Hey, now. There was a difference between 'turning to' and 'merrily skipping.' Kanan didn't think that Ezra had merrily skipped, either. That didn't make it any less unfortunate.

His lips did twitch into something approaching a smile, then. Small and wry, but not entirely unpleasant. He wasn't looking to start a fight, either.

"I'd wondered if you'd come to this thing," he admitted. "Making old connections? Or was the island simply being contrary again?"

At least he could content himself that in her case his teaching methods had nothing to do with it.

"Avoiding this place would have raised suspicions as to why." After all she'd already done to prevent her master's attention falling upon this place, an awkward weekend was very little.

Small consolation there, really. He wasn't beating himself up thinking that there was something he could have done to save her from that path.

Yay?

"Ah," he replied, giving a small nod and finally turning his face her way. "Then you would have preferred to avoid this place, otherwise?"

He couldn't exactly blame her, he supposed. Not with the half-dozen Jedi who tended to reside on the island at any given point in time. But it did make him appreciate her presence here all the more. He was pretty sure he could guess at whose attention she was trying to divert from this place.
