Around town- Saturday morning

Apr 22, 2016 22:32

As people in Fandom woke up, they might notice it looked slightly overcast. If they looked up, they'd see a large and imposing spaceship looming over the island.

Some people might be getting something like deja vu.

The ship had been brought by the Brood, who had come by the ship naturally. If by "naturally" you meant that they'd killed or ( Read more... )

Raven had come to the island with Karla to show off the new baby, but the appearance of the space ship overhead along with the accompanying stab of anxiety she picked up from the rest of Fandom had her regretting that decision. Leaving Karina with Karla, Kayla, and Nommy at the hotel, she ventured out to see what was going on. If necessary, she was going to teleport Karla and the children all right back to Glacia whether they wanted it or not.

Her first sight of the Brood had her thinking that was going to be the best choice.

It really, really was.

There was a trio, because they could tell from the hivemind that that seemed to work the best here, and the two sleazoids led the way in coming towards her, with the Queen trailing just behind.

Raven really tried not to judge by appearance, but in this case, she was going to make an exception. "Please, stay where you are," she said, holding up a hand as she took a step back.

"Do you understand me? Who are you? What do you want from Fandom?"

"We want to breed," the Queen replied.

Which was never what you wanted to hear from scary-looking aliens. It never ever went well.

"Then you are in the wrong place," Raven said firmly. She was shielding herself from the strange alien emotions she was picking up, but at the same time she was sending an empathic pulse of calmness at the Brood, hoping to keep them peaceful.

"If you seek others of your kind, you will not find any here, I assure you. If it is a place you require to...breed, then perhaps we can find you a suitable location that is not here."

"Here is perfect," the Queen hissed creepily, raising the stinger tentacle menacingly as the other two got closer to her.

"I do not wish to hurt you, but I will if I must," Raven said. She'd prefer to avoid it, because even though her demon side was under control, she still didn't want to risk tapping that power. But if the creatures wouldn't respond to her emotional powers, there were still other things she could do that would not leave them wandering the island.

Karla would kill her if she simply absorbed them into the Netherverse, but if she could do what she'd done once before on Glacia, and just make herself the doorway to another world...that might work to get the Brood and their plans for breeding safely away. She kept a wary eye on the Queen and her minions, ready to open herself not dirty if they attacked.

The closer Brood snaked a tentacle her way to try and grab her around the midsection. They were focused on infecting as many people as possible, they didn't want to waste time.

"But we want to hurt you," one Brood said.

Raven lifted her arms, trying to find that same sense of panic and desperation as she had when she had rescued Jono and his soldiers from the witchblood smoke. A flare of purple light erupted from her body as her soul bridged the gap between Fandom and a tiny unpopulated planet she knew of on the other side of the galaxy.

Come at her, Brood. Step right up.

Another one with powers. The Brood needed that, in fact, so the closer one had no problem getting closer and trying to twist his tentacles around to entrap her.

He had no idea.

If Raven's powers had a sound effect, it would have been something like "fwhoooosh" as the Brood got too close, and purple tendrils seized hold of it and pulled it inside the light. One second the Brood was there, the next it was gone, deposited on a far-off world.

The Brood immediately wanted that power.

The second sleazoid made its way over to try the same thing. The Queen, however, used that as a distraction to try to get around to Raven's back.

Focused on the creature coming at her from the front, Raven momentarily lost track of the Queen. She pulled the sleazoid into her portal-self, then quickly spun around to confront the other Brood.

Too bad she wasn't quite fast enough.

No, she wasn't, and that was probably evidenced by the tentacle stabbing into her back.

Looks like the Brood were going to get those powers after all.

Pity Raven't wasn't experienced enough with this power to realize she was still tangible enough from behind despite being a portal from the front.

She cried out in pain and crumbled to her knees as the portal closed and the light disappeared. It was a struggle to concentrate on healing herself, but she clutched one hand to her back and felt the gaping hole left by the tentacle close beneath her fingers. There was something else, though, something she couldn't quite identify. Poison?

"What did you do to me?" Raven gasped. She tried to dispel the toxin or whatever it was, but something didn't feel right, like part of her was resisting expelling it.
