Because the adults must suffer for their transgressions.

"Why do I sign up for this every single time?" Atton complained at no one in particular.

It was his own fault.

"Because the Island makes you do things?"

That was Parker's first guess, anyway.

"Yeah, that's gotta be it," Atton said, "Some kind of island brain magic."

No, it was definitely his choice.

Eliot was played by a man allergic to suits wasn't trying to seduce anyone this year, so he was dressed pretty casually tonight.

But, hey, it was clean and unripped and he had his shirt tucked in. And this was totally his formal belt buckle!

Hardison was played by a man who looked damn good in suits just looked at his boyfriend and shook his head. He was also dressed casually, but it was suit casual. And he looked damned good in it.

Formal belt buckle indeed.

"Oh, what?" he asked, coming over to bump shoulders with Eliot before handing over a glass of punch. "I ain't worth the effort of cleanin' up no more?"

"You tryin' to say I don't look good?" Eliot asked. His hair was impeccable. And his shirt was tucked in. It wasn't even flannel!

Which was why Hardison was actually speaking to him in public. If he'd shown up in flannel, Hardison probably would have spent the night pretending he didn't speak English or something.

"Not as good as last year," he said, which Eliot couldn't even argue with. "Yo, who has a formal belt buckle? What kinda white nonsense is that?"

Last year Eliot was trying to out-do Plan E. There were extenuating circumstances. "Man, I don't make fun of your totally pointless scarves." Most of the time, anyway. "Nothin' wrong with a man enjoyin' his accessories."

Be glad he wasn't wearing one of his cowboy hats, Hardison. You might've had to fake a gremlin bite or something.

Hardison would have been making plans to move.

"Like hell you don't," Hardison argued. "An' you notice, I ain't wearin' a scarf right now." Because a scarf would have ruined the whole image he was projecting. Obviously.

"Nah, you're just wearin' a suit that looks like you slept in it," Eliot said. He really wanted to reach over and . . . rearrange . . . that suit. If Hardison was going for a rumpled look, he should go in whole hog. "Button your jacket or don't, but ya gotta at least pick one."

He was missing last year's waistcoat.

Had they really come to the dance to argue over what the other was wearing? Yes, yes they had. They were so married, even if Eliot didn't want to admit it.

"Man, stop playin'," Hardison said. "I'm makin' this look damn good an' you know it."

"So'm I!" He was, too. His shirt was tailored extremely well, for all that it looked like it was made for wearing on a ranch, and the fact that it was buttoned and tucked in was showing the tailoring -- and the powerfully built body underneath it -- in good effect.

Not damn bad for a 40 year old.

"Know what you'd look even better wearin'?" Hardison asked, leaning close to Eliot so they didn't have to worry about students overhearing.

"Nothin'?" Eliot guessed with a smile, reaching over to unobtrusively unbutton Hardison's jacket. If he were Parker, he'd manage that and untucking Hardison's shirt without anyone noticing he was doing it.

He wasn't Parker.

"Well, I was gonna say a goddamned suit," Hardison teased, his laugh a low rumble in Eliot's ear. "But I'm likin' the way you--an' just what are you up to?"
