When the sun came down, the air shifted. Like the last creature in Pandora's box, a pleasant hopeful warmth came forth, fragile, for every heart it could reach. Bringing with it, for just one single moment, visions of much brighter things that had been - or that would come.
They, too, faded soon after.

He glanced over his shoulder, and caught sight of Jedi robes, a warrior's smile, and long brown hair. There was warmth in it, a peace, a...
...and just like that, she was gone.
He let out a breath.
"I hate weekends."

The next it was gone, with that little shiver that sometimes accompanies a sudden surge of warmth. She blinked and saw a flash of . . . something? A table in a some tavern, herself among a group of people sitting around it and laughing over drinks. She couldn't make out any of their faces, but just before the vision faded she had a fleeting impression of unruly dark hair, a rakish grin, and sharp blue eyes.
Odd that a glimpse of herself among people not of her clan could feel so inexplicably comforting, and it had been so brief she couldn't even be sure of what she'd seen. Give it a day or two and likely she'd have forgotten all about it, but for now? For now, at least, it made her smile.

"I'm so proud of you," a voice whispered in his ear, and Eliot reached up to touch his mother's arms, but she was gone before he was able.
He was suddenly glad the beard covered such a large percentage of his face. He nudged the hat down a little lower and hoped no one noticed the tear running down his cheek.
