Fandom had worked hard, both inside and outside, for this party to happen. The corridor from the Causeway to the community center was as clean as it was going to get-- though some monsters still strayed in from time to time, they were easily dispatched ( Read more... )

X-Mas Tree And Kids' Section fjordicswagger December 21 2015, 11:11:38 UTC
Don't ask how Tamsin managed to get the giant lit-up Christmas tree, but it's sitting in the middle of the room. It's surrounded by toys, and moddable gift packages addressed to every child in the room.

Seriously. Don't ask.

Juliet and Christopher tore into their packages with unholy glee.

"Who gives toothbrushes as presents?" Juliet asked, holding hers up.

The darkness, the visions, the monsters: they had vanished quietly across the day, one for every smile and song and warmest bite.

When the sun came down, the air shifted. Like the last creature in Pandora's box, a pleasant hopeful warmth came forth, fragile, for every heart it could reach. Bringing with it, for just one single moment, visions of much brighter things that had been - or that would come.

They, too, faded soon after.

That was weird. There was a tingle in Atton's fingertips he was pretty sure there hadn't been before--

--and then a warm weight on his shoulders.

He glanced over his shoulder, and caught sight of Jedi robes, a warrior's smile, and long brown hair. There was warmth in it, a peace, a...

He let out a breath.

"I hate weekends."

One moment the cold, sodden-feeling weight of several days' emotional onslaught had been hanging over Merrill, trying its best to drag her down.

The next it was gone, with that little shiver that sometimes accompanies a sudden surge of warmth. She blinked and saw a flash of . . . something? A table in a some tavern, herself among a group of people sitting around it and laughing over drinks. She couldn't make out any of their faces, but just before the vision faded she had a fleeting impression of unruly dark hair, a rakish grin, and sharp blue eyes.

Odd that a glimpse of herself among people not of her clan could feel so inexplicably comforting, and it had been so brief she couldn't even be sure of what she'd seen. Give it a day or two and likely she'd have forgotten all about it, but for now? For now, at least, it made her smile.

Eliot was grumping it up in the Santa section when the sun went down, and he startled internally when he felt the weight of spectral arms around his shoulder.

"I'm so proud of you," a voice whispered in his ear, and Eliot reached up to touch his mother's arms, but she was gone before he was able.

He was suddenly glad the beard covered such a large percentage of his face. He nudged the hat down a little lower and hoped no one noticed the tear running down his cheek.
