Originally, this was going to be a much smaller event, but then Fandom had to be Fandom and Portalocity had to be Portalocity, and now Zoe was wondering if there would be enough food for everyone or if she'd have to get things from the local restaurants

Kate hadn't run into anyone yet! She'd had work earlier in the day, so the dance was the first thing she made it onto the island for. And so here she was, in a spiffy Corgi dress and a great big smile on her face.

All in all, she cut a much happier and healthier figure than she had six years ago when she'd first traveled to Fandom.

Kate was totally not startled.

Except how she definitely was. She whirled around, her eyebrows bouncing way up and her smile managing to "Leto! Oh my God. Oh my God, how are you? It's been forever!"

"Not quite forever, but it's been a long time." He leaned in to giv her a hug. "It is good to see you."

There was absolutely no chance of her refusing him a hug. She hugged him with a happy sigh. "It's great to see you too. Weird, but good."

"Weird?" He pulled away, his hands still on her shoulders. "You have clearly been away from Fandom too long."

"Hey, I visit more often than you do!" she objected with a laugh. "I even taught at the school last year and everything."

Leto grinned, proud of her. "What did you teach?" he asked.

She should've expected these kinds of questions and yet she hadn't. She was rusty. She tilted her head to side and looked up as she thought.

"I don't know. I guess maybe that I actually have something of worth to say to people younger than me? I mean, that hasn't exactly been a given before."

Kate let out a chuckle, glancing down at her feet. "Thanks," she said. She shook her head. "Anyway, how are you?"

"Today I am enjoying the freedom of not being emperor of the Known Universe. Alice has been kind enough to take on the responsibilities of state matters for a few days." No doubt she was enjoying causing some needed chaos and confusion. "Hania is ten years old, and takes after her mother. My life is good, if rarely peaceful."
