The Zin Ship Above Fandom, Sunday Morning and Afternoon

Aug 02, 2015 09:02

Simulation 45y was failing.

Angry red lights were going off everywhere. Along with claxons. Too many claxons. Zin were running around, trying to shut off one claxon after another.

There was a lot of yelling.

And pods kept opening.

That was inconvenient.

There are several teleporter rooms all across the ship. Find them and hit a few buttons until they display Fandom - then you can go out.

Or find some other way to break out. Maybe you have friends on the outside?

"It's like a fucking cult," Sparkle muttered, squinting out at... actual outside. In the real world. Even being shot at, it was still a beautiful sight. "And we still don't even know why they wanted to keep us in that sim in the first place, do we?"

That really just made him want to kick them in the faces some more. Come on, Fandom, why couldn't he keep that stomping power he'd gotten this morning?

"My guess is they're power-hungry sleemos who just like making people dance for their amusement," Atton said.

You know, the kind of people he hated most.

"Teethree? Pants?"

He was steering the Hawk back towards the MCA building. It felt good to be back in the pilot's seat, for sure.

"I guess that would explain the Jane Austen," Sparkle muttered, pulling his knees up and wrapping his arms around them where he sat. "Zinyak can go step on some fucking legos."

Sparkle's rage was truly a force to be reckoned with.

"I hope someone shoves him onto a pike, disembowls him while he's still alive, and then kicks him off the ship," said Atton, whose usual Sparkle-filters were kind of failing at the moment.

He snagged the pants out of T3's clutches.

"Yeah," Sparkle agreed, glancing that way more for the reassurance that Atton was there and in one piece than anything else. "That too."

There was a long pause before he added, a little more quietly, "Can I crash at your place tonight?"

He was already so long gone from Toronto that he'd be in shit regardless of one extra night on the island or not. And, Sparkle-filter or not, Atton was kind of his touchstone to the real world, here.

He was safer around Atton. And Toronto felt not-safe-at-all in all kinds of ways that he wasn't ready to think about just yet.

Atton gave him a sideways glance. They were on a set course for the MCA now; he could afford to be yanking his pants on, one leg at a time.

"Sure," he said.

The answer didn't really need to be more complicated than that.

Sparkle nodded gratefully, satisfied with that answer, and then slumped back in his seat and sighed and looked back toward the window.

"Thanks."

Really, what else was there to say?

Not much, honestly.

Atton retreated back into his own mind as he began landing procedures on the roof of MCA. Somebody was lecturing him on the Dark Side on there, and as much as he wanted to flip that somebody off, he was pretty sure he was actually going to wind up spending a chunk of the night meditating, at least after Sparkle went back to sleep.

T3 let out an obnoxiously merry chirp when the Hawk touched down. Atton whacked it in the head. That made him feel better.

Sparkle, meanwhile, gave the droid a little smile.

Look, he could handle obnoxiously merry right about then. Obnoxiously merry really worked for him today.

"Hey," he said, grinning crookedly. "Ground."

Rooftop. Close enough.

Atton flipped the various switches that put the Hawk back in dormant mode, then patted one of the consoles soothingly. "It's okay," he said, "I'll catch up on maintenance in the morning."

A thousand apologies, Ebon Hawk.

Sparkle was pretty sure the Ebon Hawk would get over it. Just this once.

He slid out of his seat, then, and mostly just followed up the act of standing by... continuing to stand. Awkwardly.

"Would you two like a moment alone?"

Atton gave the dashboard a last, loving little rap of his knuckles, then got up to his feet. "Nah," he said. "I think tomorrow I'm going to give a quick retooling to the deflector shields, maybe tweak the engines, I think I heard a rattle--"

He cleared his throat. "--Anyway Let's go."

He had all day tomorrow to hug his starship.

"She's had a hard day," Sparkle replied, giving Atton a cheeky little smile as he turned to walk back out of the cockpit again. "It's okay, man. I understand."

The ship, her pilot, everybody. Whichever.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah," Atton muttered, trailing after him. "Hey, you think any of the delivery places is still running right now...?"

"Considering the decided lack of, like, normal people who weren't dressed as hot dogs in like half the restaurants there? I'm willing to bet we can probably get Pizza Planet without too much trouble. There aren't even things in the streets just randomly attacking people right now, it looks like."

So it was totally business as usual on the island. Had to be.
