The Preserve; Sunday Evening

Skulking about in the preserve might not really be the best idea Jasper's ever had but it'd been something he'd wanted to do for awhile now. Most of this island was a mess of wide open spaces, water and small, dark alleys that were one cigarette smoking guy in a trench coat away from a film noir.

Clarke was out with a flashlight, doing her now-weekly check of the portal that landed her here. Usually she never saw anybody so imagine her surprise when she turned her flashlight on Jasper.

Seriously, she was surprised, there was a shout and everything.

[100leader]

Clarke frowned slightly, noticing him tensing up now that he was close. "Is something wrong?"

So many things.

"No." Of course he'd say that. He tried to take a step back but couldn't. "Something wrong with you?"

[100leader]

"Nothing aside from the usual," she said. "You just seem preoccupied, that's all."

[ihuntkillers]

"I've got a lot on my mind."

Hey, that was even the truth. No lie involved.

"Just like I'm sure you do too." And he'd flip things right back to her without even thinking. "Still haven't found anything worthwhile?"

[100leader]

"Nope," she said, sighing. Part of the sigh was from finding nothing, the other part was because she noticed Jasper kept asking about her rather than talking about himself. "Unfortunately I'm not the type to give up."

"I guessed that about you," he said, smiling crookedly. "That you didn't give up, at least. Too stubborn."

Just a feeling he had.

"Anything I can do to help?" he offered without giving himself time to think about it. It seemed like a good thing to say.

[100leader]

"I don't think there's much you could do," she said. "Even I don't know what to do other than wander around here."

[ihuntkillers]

"I'm out here now, I could wander with you," he offered quietly. "Not that I've seen anything that looks like it might drop you off into another world but I haven't covered the whole area yet."

[100leader]

"I suppose some company couldn't hurt," she said with a wry smile. "Four eyes are better than two."

[ihuntkillers]

"And it means I can't scare you again," he said, teasing this time before gesturing with an arm deeper into the preserve. "Because I did."

[100leader]

"You are more than welcome to think that if it helps you sleep better," she teased, leading the way towards the direction he gestured at.

[ihuntkillers]

"Well, that won't really work since I don't tend to sleep well." Look at that, he shared something about himself. "I don't know if this'll be the turning point or not."

[100leader]

"I don't sleep that well either," she shared. "Especially since we landed on Earth. Need to be ready to fight at any moment."

[ihuntkillers]

"Even here?" he asked, glancing over at her. "The fight or flight thing keeps you awake?"

Sounded pretty logical to him.

[100leader]

"It's a hard thing to shake," Clarke said. "Some of it might be anxiety related too."
