Trooper Station, Wednesday

Considering it was the day after St. Pat's, Jake was doing... pretty well, actually. Sure, he'd fallen asleep fully dressed last night, but he hadn't awoken to being prodded by flamingoes, or on someone else's couch. And the station coffee was actually doing a pretty decent job of shaking off the last of the hangover ( Read more... )

Jake was looking for banter and an-only-slightly bruised Jessica was looking for a job. Things balanced out sometimes.

"Excuse me," she said, stepping into the trooper station. "I'm hoping that paperwork means you make decisions around here. Hopefully including the hiring of people."

Well, her assumption was correct... inasmuch as decisions that needed to be made in a town that didn't really have a crime problem per se.

"That'd be me. Ye looking to apply, I take it?"

Between her professional wardrobe and her resume, Jessica had spent the morning being productive. "You'd be correct. I'm Jessica Drew. I'm a little stranded here at the moment, and employment would be extremely helpful. Fortunately I'm already familiar with Fandom and, frankly, I'm probably bordering on overqualified, considering my age."

She was already taking a seat by Jake's desk and handing her resume over. She was certainly confident.

And the resume backed her up. She had Fandom High listed for education (graduated last year), the SHIELD training academy (graduated 2011), Agent of SHIELD from 2011 through 2014, superhero from 2011 through present, leader of a superhero team 2014 to present....

That she'd brought a resume certainly gave her a leg up on pretty much anyone else who'd applied for a job at the station, Jake included. He looked over her resume, nodding thoughtfully. "You've certainly accomplished a lot in quite a short timespan," he acknowledged. "There's not a terrible lot of law enforcement to actually do around here, though. Are you sure you won't get bored, after being used to all that excitement?"

"We don't have regular crime here, no, but there's enough crazy stuff going on to stay busy," Jessica said. "Last weekend I fought an invulnerable, multidimensional vampire right on the other side of the causeway. If I'm gonna be doing that anyway, I might as well make some money for rent."

"Fair enough," Jake admitted. "Hell, we've got plenty of room in the budget for another hire... done. Welcome aboard, Ms. Drew."

"Thanks," Jessica said. "One question. Do the troopers already know the theme song to 'Cops' or do I have to teach it to them?"

She could have asked about what days her shift would be or what the benefits were or whatever. But she was sticking with the theme song question.

"What they lack in talent they make up for in enthusiasm," Jake informed her.

"I'm sure I'll experience that firsthand during many sing-alongs on the slow days," Jessica said. "If you'll excuse me, I have a lot more errands to run to get things set up here. I'll be in bright and early tomorrow for my first shift. Even if there isn't anything happening."

Which, um, there kind of was. But you'd have to excuse Jessica for being distracted.
