The Park, Wednesday afternoon

Raven didn't have any classes today, and had decided to spend her day hanging around in town instead of in the dorms. She wasn't really interested in the new shop in town everyone seemed to have gone gaga over -- growing up in a giant house full of antiques tended to make them lose their excitement -- so she just swung by the donut shop, picked ( Read more... )

Cecil was out walking...well, less "walking Foucault" than "walking near Foucault", but details. He caught the trailing end of a fleeting glimpse of one of the teachers running off, but shrugged and kept going.

"Oh, Raven!" He grinned and waved. "Hi!"

Raven was still holding her head and looking appalled. "Did you see that?!"

Cecil looked at her, wide-eyed. "See what?"

That was probably a no.

"That teacher just pulled out my hair!" Raven was having trouble believing it even as she said it. "While screaming about cocaine!"

How the hell did someone miss that?

Mostly by not being there. "Oh, no!" Cecil flopped down next to her, his hands hovering like he wanted to help and wasn't sure what to do. Because that was pretty much exactly what was going on. "But your hair's not real, is it? Or, I mean, um, not really hair? Or more real than most people's, or something?" What did you do when someone broke something? "Um. Is it bleeding?"

"I'm fine," Raven said, sounding really put out. It had bled, but only a little bit. It was rather like breaking your fingernail below the quick. It hurt like a sonofabitch, but there wasn't really much you did for it other than curse and complain a lot. It wasn't as though she was going to put a bandaid on her hair. "I knew she was crazy, but still!"

"Do you want to go get it back, or punch her or something?" Cecil bit his lip. "I make good moral support!"

"No," Raven said sulkily. "She'd probably just try to grab more. Who the hell yanks people's hair for cocaine?!"

"Um. A cocaine addict?" Cecil offered tentatively. Was this a trick question?

"Sorry. So, um...how have you been otherwise?"

But -- hair!

"What?" Raven asked. Sorry, she was a little distracted (though not for hte same reason everyone else was being distracted). "Fine. You?"

"Cold," Cecil answered, but he rolled his eyes at himself. "Like always around here in winter. "But pretty good otherwise. Sorry I haven't been getting out much."

"I'm pretty sure it's spring," Raven said. She was from New York. This was definitely spring weather to her. "I'm sorry it's still too cold for you, though."

"Not for a few more days!" Cecil protested "But I'll be okay. I have Foucault."

Foucault heard his name and ran back over.

"Hi, Foucault," Raven said, wiggling her fingers at the bird before looking back at Cecil. "Does he keep you warm?"

"He's like a really good feather comforter!" Cecil said. "Except for when he actually does try to lay on top of me." He scritched Foucault's head, and he honked happily. Then blinked at Raven's fingers and started examining them. Did she have food? Or was she a good scritcher?

She was potentially a very good, though inexperienced scritcher! He probably didn't want her extra donut, though.

"He looks a little big for that," she agreed. "It must be nice having a pet."
