Been a couple of days now, and things had been going pretty smoothly. Housing would probably be taken care of soon, and the Admirals seemed to be happy with the data he was sending back so far. The only thing that was left to Kaidan right now was finishing the planning for his lessons

Coffee, delicious bringer of life and heatstroke...

Dean's espresso machine was on the fritz again, and rather than succumb to the urge to just go with some sort of nightmare instant mix, he'd decided to haul his butt out through the morning heat, to at least try to get to the Perk before things really got hot around noon.

"Quiet, this morning," he noted, mostly to nobody in particular as he stepped into the room. "Must be the holiday."

"The holiday...?" Kaidan asked, looking up.

Normally, he wouldn't assume anyone was talking to him specifically. Considering it was just him and the barrista, he was choosing to make an educated guess.

"Independence Day," Dean supplied, signalling for the barista to make him his usual and turning an easy smile toward Kaidan. "I'm going to go out on a limb and say you're either not from around here, or you forgot to turn your calendar over to July."

"Ind--" Oh. Wait. "Right, we're in the old States," Kaidan said, sounding downright surprised by the realization. "I guess it is, yeah."
