The Perk, Wednesday Afternoon

Calculating a multiversal time difference was tricky when math had not been your strong suit in the first place. See, Kate had grabbed a portal right after work without even changing her clothes first (though she did have a summery dress tucked in her bag), because she'd come to the conclusion that that was the only way she'd even make it to the ( Read more... )

Despite his naturally sunny disposition, Frank was not really an outdoorsy, loving-the-tent-life kind of guy. So while he tried to spend at least some time around the campfires every day, his very clear preference was for spending as much time in town as possible. Like at the Perk. For coffee with fancy Italian-sounding names. That made him cultured, you know.

What he hadn't expected upon his arrival today was a really, really pretty stewardess at one of the tables. He did his best to contain himself, but a dorky grin immediately spread across his face.

"Whoa," he said quietly. No, Frank. Not the right thing to say. "Hi."

It took Kate a second to look up, because his voice wasn't familiar to her. Neither was his face.

"Uh, hi?" she offered with a small smile, trying to decide whether this could be someone she knew but with the wrong face, or something.

"I didn't know there was an airport nearby," Frank babbled, because that was the first thing that came to his mind. "I mean. I'm Frank. I was just going to get a doughnut or something. Do you want one?"

"... Sure," Kate decided after a moment, looking a little more amused. The babbling was amusing, okay. "Also, there is BWI, that's fairly close to here? But my airport's actually in Kansas."

Luke had no intention of going to the party tonight since he had bad luck with solstices and he figured he should lay low. But it was still hot as hell out so he could risk going into town and getting an iced coffee.

Which was good because otherwise he wouldn't have seen Kate. "Hey!"

Well that, at least, was an easily recognizable voice. "Luke, hey!" Kate replied immediately, looking up with a smile. "Surprise! I was just wondering whether I should start bugging people to entertain me."

"I think you might end up having a lot of people flock here. It's hot as hell outside, and I say that as someone who has actually been to the Underworld," Luke said. "What brings you here?"

"Jack and Emma are supposed to be having this solstice party tonight." At least she hoped this was still the right day. "But I fucked up figuring out the time difference. Hence the SkyKans garb and all. I thought I was gonna be in a rush."
