Somehow, even after talking to just about everyone in existence to overexaggerate a bit, there were people Jaina had missed. And some of them, namely a certain teenage cousin, was definitely one she wanted to make sure she was in touch with these days.
Sometimes it amazed Jaina when people in their family acted their age and said things like that. That was bad, wasn't it?
"He seems to," she assured him. "And keep in mind that he's a legend because of what happened over the course of a couple days. For the vast majority of the rest of the time, he's exactly that kid who argues with Jacen all the time and tries to outdo me at everything."
It had never occurred to Jaina before that anyone would do that. Then again, as far as she was concerned, she hadn't done much of anything so far.
"As flattering as that is, stop that. I've wondered forever if I was ever going to live up to the incredibly high bar our parents set, and then I had one brother end a war and the other died to save the Jedi," she said, just a touch dryly. Thanks for that, writers Jacen and Anakin! "Fact is, whatever it is I end up doing could be on an entirely different path than what any of them did, and it's less stressful to compare myself to them. It'll be the same for you."
Which was not to say Jaina wouldn't stop comparing herself to anyone, just that she knew it was bad to do.
Ben took a deep breath. "Yeah, about that," he said. "Ender's invited me to come with him after graduation sometime. He's going to be a planetary governor for his galaxy's first colony. I said yes."
"You did mention the offer was out there, but hadn't made a decision yet," she said after a little pause. She couldn't say she wasn't expecting it. "This is really what you want?"
Welcome to why Jaina had been sort of glad to have Fandom in the early days. Minus the Sith part. "Can't say I exactly blame you. And you're still going to be able to be in touch?"
She was totally momming him, wasn't she? Eh, someone should.
"I'm going to have years of time on my hands," Ben said teasingly. "It's the first time that's ever happened. Of course I'm going to tear apart my comlink."
He turned more serious. "I don't want to lose track of you either."
"Good, then we're in agreement there." To be honest, with everything that might be going down soon, just knowing this Ben was out there might be a huge help. "Get the comlink working and I won't come out there and drag you back kicking and screaming."
"I'd make sure to make it nice and entertaining," she promised. "So when you say 'after graduation sometime,' I take it you're not leaving right away?"
Which would be why he was getting a call.
